The misery of being a Tigers fan.....

Postby Brad » Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:08 pm

Made the trip over to Melbourne, would have never thought we would lose by so much (wasn't hugely confident but optimistic), all the promise in the world at the end of 2008 and we are a laughing stock tonight.

Doesn't get any easier next week a trip to Skilled Stadium and the Cats, seriously if we play like we did tonight next week we will get done by 40 odd goals.

Honestly reckon you blokes have a better list than your performances indicate, have thought that for a while, maybe not 4-5 years, but pretty close.

Don't ask me why, but I reckon a seriously resurgent Richmond would be great for footy.

Brad please do not get me started... All i wana go and do is go back to 7pm and see if we can change it. is that possible??
im so livid.
That was our worst performance we have put in since that shocking 25 goal lost to geelong.
After winning 8 of the last 10 or so in 2008, i was hoping for a far better performance. Why did we risk cousins after the 3/4 break? Upside, richo played well, raines got through unscathed and played alrite.
Simmonds came back well from the worst possible start. McGuane let me down. Our ball handling skills under pressure and even under no pressure in the defensive 50 was embarrasing. is it that hard to mark an uncontested ball? and to top it off, simmonds gets a free kick and has the ball thrown to him, and he couldn even catch that! disgraceful display.

Hopes were way up. There shot now. Im hoping we can serve up some sort of challenge to geelong, not happy we got them so early

The Cousins one is something that is going to be talked about constantly for the next 4-5 days. He clearly was in discomfort at three quarter time and he obviously had a hamstring problem. Now i know Hindsight is a wonderful thing but why oh why would he come back on? The game was well and truly dead and buried and he had no need to play any further part.

I dont want to compound your terrible night mate but Raines did not get through unscathed, came off late in the game with the trainers clutching his knee, and have been different reports on the radio. Some say dislocated knee cap and MMM said just bruising so will have to wait and see. Was on crutches so will be in serious doubt for next week regardless.

Every radio call I've listened to has bagged the Richmond medical staff for allowing Cousins to keep playing under slight discomfort. Certainly if I were a Richmond fan I'd be asking questions. And coverking, hate to tell you but Raines has injured his knee which is awful news for the kid, ****ing terrible in fact. I've rated him since that job he did on Ricciuto in 2006, seems to play with a lot of heart and you always want to see those types excel.

Bitter pill to swallow for Tigers fans but as everyone knows round 1 can throw up some peculiar results. It might not all be doom and gloom just yet.

Exactly.

No need for heads to roll just yet but the problem is Geelong next week and the Dogs the week after. Hello 0-3 (Very Possible Anyway) and then the heat will be on.

i had that feeling wen i wrote 'raines got through unscathed' that he got injured! i missed 5 minutes driving home from the pub, must have happened then! THat is terrible news. Hopefully we can get johnson and coughlan back soon, and also cotchin. but i dont think next week is to have any slightly injured players against the cats.

Nil and 3 we could be, but if we are to put up a real good fight against the next two sides we should take confidence from it IMO. not doom and gloom yet but a horrible start.

Well richo and brown got through alrite ;) (please dont tell me there injured aswell)

I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Life just isn't fun when you're a Richmond fan.

We've played some bad games in the last 8 or so years, but last night was close to the worst. Simmonds and Moore dropping uncontested marks inside defensive 50 leading to goals, Deledio turning the footy over from a kick-in for a goal, just simple skill errors that you can't afford in AFL football. Couldn't win a 50/50, didn't win many contests of any type really, it was horrible.

I really think our back six is good, with Moore, Thursfield and McGuane (who I didn't think was too bad on Fev, even though he was visibly sore) taking the talls, with Raines, Newman and Bowden (why was he playing forward?). Simmonds is better than what he showed last night, and young Browne didn't really look up to it yet (where is Pattison?). Midfield is solid with Foley, Deledio, Cousins, Cotchin, Johnson, Brown, Tuck and Richo all moving through there. The problem is the forward line. Morton has been good and will get better, so will Riewoldt, but with Brown and Richo spending more time up the ground, and Schulz and Tambling not doing a whole lot, it's hard to see where the other avenues to goal are.

We may well be 0-3, but hope is not lost. We won 8 of the last 11 in 08, do that again with a few more wins before the half-way mark and we can get there. If it's not looking likely by Round 14-15 though, I'd expect to see Plow jump before he is pushed.

It must be hell being a Richmond fan, but they can always console themselves with the DVD of the 1980 VFL Grand Final. :ymsigh:

...and 1974.

...and 1973.

...and 1969.

...and 1967.

and if they're really depressed, get out the Richmond History book and read about
the 1920,1921,1932,1934 and 1943 premierships. :-({|=

Tiges fans, there are people worse off than you. [-X

I've heard Wallace may be a dead man walking. Word is he has lost the players and unless things change it unlikely he will see out the season. Not surprising really, he lost me years ago.

did richardson play on thurs night? normally when he plays on the ball or the wing the tigers do well. Bit surprised bout B Cousins going back on in fourth when they knew he was having probs with hamstring

All i know that a lot of people had richmond in their top eight before the season started. I know they are a couple of players down (johnson, cotchin, coughlan) but every team picks up injuries during the year and I'm not sure if they have the depth to cover if injuries do mount up. Saying that I was pretty impressed with the way Jack Riewoldt went about his footy on Thursday night. Didnt' get a heap of it but contested hard and took some nice grabs and seems to have a bit of footy nous. Has been in the system though for a couple of years now though.....

You're onto something their AH, talking to an ex-Richmond player he said the biggest problem with Richmond (Wallace's coaching) is they just lack structure. No real system to their play.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
