St.Kilda Season 2009

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Mar 26, 2009 1:02 pm

All talk on the Saints is here.

This year, the Saints will won't let down the Tipsters much..... ;)

After sneaking into the eight last year, the Saints won't leave it until the last minute this year.

My Opinion: St.KIlda to finish between 4th and 8th.

Sneaking into the eight?

Mate we finished fourth!

Seriously though, I would like to see us play some good old agressive attacking footy this year, but with Paul Roos disciple Lyon at the helm I seriously doubt thats gonna happen.

Oh well, being a mindless optimist is what going for the Saints is all about.

Last round didn't you give Essendon a hiding to get through?

then Adelaide dropped out the four?

Ah yes, luckily we played the Essendon thirds (due to their mile long injury list) and then it was a Victorian conspiracy to keep the Cows out of the four. ;)

The looks looked alright last night, but after quater time Sydney were terrible. When Reiwolt and Kosi get moving the do alright, Farren Ray was good for them and might look to be a decent pick up, also it was interesting to see Zac Dawson on Hall for a bit. Seems the young man has beefed up a bit in a hope not to get monstered by a big forward again. Anyway after one game it is hard to tell, but at the moment with players such as Kosi, St.Nick, Ray, Goddard and Dal Santo playing well they will go alright. Im just not sure about the Ultra super defense tatic.

They seem to all of a sudden have a lot of good, strong, experienced players in their prime. I think they are the real deal in 2009 and will give Geelong and Hawthorn a real shake.

I had to find this thread on page 2 maybe we have to sticky these team 2009 threads somehow? They will make interesting reading as fortunes change over the season. Lots of big calls to  people on later. Just like mine here ...!

They've looked very good so far this year including tonight.

A game between them and Geelong would be a cracker right now, but they don't meet until round 14.
In any case I see Geelong as still being the superior side.

A top 4 position awaits the Saints unless things unravel badly.

Geelong/St.Kilda GF.

Saints are very, very good. What I saw tonight was a team totally outclassing the opposition. They are accountable, relentless and have good skills. They are a side that is going to be very hard to beat.

Too early to be nominating GF teams, but St.Kilda really do remind me (a lot) of where Hawthorn were situated this time last season. If they can maintain form, confidence and intensity over the season, and the major key - remain relatively injury free to key players - they will be a genuine chance come September.

Will playing on that hard Ethiad surface take it s toll again ?
Its only April.
By September the usual injuries+ tiredness start becoming a factor.
Also the prima donna psyche will be on the players minds by then

History shows they will find a way not to be AGAIN
Except
1966
When Barry kicked that mongrel punt that became one of the most famous point scores in AFL history.

Hope Im wrong

But 4 zip is a great start

Interestingly the five games have all been against non-Vic clubs so far. Three interstate trips in the first five is a very good effort. However, none of these teams will likely be in the top 6, with Adelaide, Port and Sydney maybe 8-10th.

Saints are playing great footy, and have picked up an enormous amount of respect i nthe footy world in just 5 weeks.

You would think there's always the fear of certain bodies breaking (King, Gardner, Hayes, Kosi etc) down and that looks to be about all that could throw them off being legitimate contenders at this stage.

Who have the Saints played ?

Freo = crap, WCE = crap, Adelaide = average, Port = frontrunners.

Will be a bit of a better test this week against the Dogs. See how they go then before I
make my decision, but yes they are looking pretty good.

Fair point mate, but it's not as if they fell in against any of them (they beat Sydney too, who whilst not as good as they used to be, aren't easybeats by any means) .. Their lowest win from all of those you've mentioned is about 6 goals.

Agree the jury is still out as they haven't come up against any red-hot competition, but all indications are pretty impressive thus far.

Have been a big improver this year, they look very good.

At this stage, they are 2nd behind Geelong.

I remember a few years ago, they won 10-0, but failed to trouble anyone in the finals.

Who knows with the Sainters. ;)
