I would be suprised if Tredrea wasn't captain next year, but if he isn't, I would think Troy Chaplin will be the next captain.

I don't think Chaplin should get it he can't play. Salopek is a fantastic young footballer and certainly plays the old fashioned Port way which would IMO make him a great choice as a leader.

Have we all forgotten Chad?

His name always comes up when they talk about leaders at the Club and on the field

Apparently doesn't want it ... Salopek looks a future leader, but if selecting from the current crop I'd probably opt for Cassisi.

Could the football community stand 2 Arrogant Leaders at Port Adelaide.... I would give it to Kane he embodies everything a leader needs he is no frills, rarely beaten and very humble also respected by others. If Chad was more like him he would be respected by other players and supporters!

Is Salopek from WA? Did anyone hear A. Jarman mention that Port are going to swap Salopek for J. Carr on 10 news the other night? surely not!!

Salopek is the best at the Power by a clear mile. They would be insane to trade him for anybody.

Good point, forgot about Dom.....great servant of the club.

Something just worries me about having a Cornes as Club Captain of a Port Adelaide side. There's no doubt that both have earned the right to be considered.

Surname aside, you gotta hand it to Kane really. When he started he was RUBBISH IMO. I would have cheered a trade like a Tredrea goal. Fortunately Chocco and his cronies are far smarter than I and could see the talent that he has become. Chocco once commented that Kane would rock up to his house and question why he wasn't getting picked. It's that sort of keenness and perseverance that about 90% of our squad needs develop.

We could do far worse than Salopek too.

Heard Graham Cornes say on AA that Kane has thought about it in the past but thinks that as he's pretty intense and "blinkered" in his prep for each game he couldn't really take on the Captaincy. I don't care but, Shaun B all the way, Cassisi VC.

Cassisi for mine, but I think Shaun Burgoyne will get the nod with Cassisi or Salopek his VC.

On a different tangent, what about Dean Brogan? Some will laugh, well, many will laugh, but this year he has tempered his ways and has been one of our best on field leaders. He works as hard as anyone at the club off the field and sets a great example (well now, anyway).

IMO he will be in the top 3 of our B&F this year and should be given some recognition for the way he has turned things around both on and off field. He wont get the job,I know that, but IMO should at least be mentioned. It would only be for 2 maybe 3 years and it would give the Salopek's and Chaplin's of the world time to mature.

Having said all that.S.Burgoyne,Salopek and Cassisi are the only ones likely at this stage.

Is there any chance Tredders does it one more time?

There's definitely a chance I think mate ... Port don't have a shortage of future captains, you just wonder if the timing isn't just a little off at the moment to appoint some of them now.

Perhaps one more year for Tredders would see someone like Salopek better placed for the role in 2010?
