Ablett: Have Geelong 'Cottoned on' to the Carlton way?

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Mar 03, 2010 2:10 pm

The news out of Sleepy Hollow today is that a local businessman who owns the 'Cotton on' chain of stores has been offering an 'Ambassadorial' role to Gary Ablett with his business which will raise Ablett's earnings to approx 1 million per season.

It is supposed to be a similar (third party) deal to Chris Judd who is an 'Environmental Ambassador' at Visy as part of his total package. These 'Ambassadorial' type arrangements with third parties are said to be outside the Salary Cap.

Perhaps if they can come up with a recycled clothing range both Judd and Ablett could be the spokesmen.......

Still, if it serves up a 5hitburger to the Gold Coast I'm all for it.

They'll need to give him a 50% share in cotton on clothing in order to keep him me thinks. Dreading the day, if he up and leaves the cats. It'll be like a death in the family :(
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Everyone is acting like it's a foregone conclusion that he's leaving Geelong for more money.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Without having an emotional connection to the issue either way, what does he have to achieve there apart from the captaincy?

Dual premiership player.
Dual best and fairest.
Brownlow Medallist.
Three times All Australian.
Three times AFL MVP.

If he decided to leave the club and play for the Gold Coast, possibly with his brother, that might present a much greater personal challenge for him than re-writing record books at the one club. About all he has left is a Norm Smith, which he arguably wouldn't win with GC, but if I was fortunate enough to be him, the challenge of driving himself to help a team starting from scratch (albeit with some of the most amazing draft concessions in history) would keep me more motivated personally.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

This is my point. Not everything is about money, it might be the allure of the lifestyle, the chance to be part of a new club. If Geelong offer him a bit more money and he takes it, it could be counter productive.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The thing I love is that Judd's gets mentioned in the media by the savvy people, as a Carlton cheating thing, yet the Judd deal was approved by the AFL.

Hope Gazza & Geelong do it and shove it up Dimwits arse.....
