I think you mean 91 Pup. The Eagles in 2001 were about as good as Geelong in 2001 (in other words 5hite!).

let's look at the team who were top after round 8 previosly and where the ended up at the end of the year...
2008- Geelong (by %)... finshed top...lost GF
2007- West Coast 7-1... finished 3rd... out in straight sets
2006- West Coast 7-1... finished top... won GF
2005- West Coast 8-0... finished 2nd... lost GF
2004- St. Kilda 8-0... finished 3rd... lost prelim

so really i'd rather not be top for now...

the premiers were at this point...
Hawthorn - 2nd, 8-0
Geelong - 3rd, 5-3
West Coast - top, 7-1
Sydney - 10th, 4-4
Port - 6th, 5-3

it's all about september action boys and girls...

I think West Coast also went 8-0 in 07 but got knocked out of the finals in straight sets. Absolutely decimated by injuries towards the end of that year however.

So why bother with 22 rounds? :?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

AMEN!!! the only reason for footy is so we can pick our best 22 and 'outcoach' our mates!!!

and the 22 rounds are to keep the dud football clubs (Melb, Rich, Freo etc) busy and to give the better teams (Geelong.... ummm.....) some trials before september...
