I feel a bit sorry for Tambling. He has a go but just isn't that good. A long stint in the magoos might be just what he needs to get a bit of confidence back. The commentators call that he wasn't running to the right places in order to get a kick was a damming one though because he's been in the system for a few years now.

I too feel sorry for Tambling .. He is, in many ways, a victim of expectation.

Similar to Daniel Wells (except not at the same level presently) - Wells is a good player, but the media and footy public in general since day dot, have expected him to be a "Great" player.

Despite some of these guys being champion players over the years, you get the sense that Richmond won't start a true "plan for success" until they lose the likes of Richo, Bowden and Brown, and force their younger players to accept more onfield responsibility, and develop a new culture that completely distances itself from the one they've possessed for the last 15 years (which was pretty much a carry-on from the one 10 years before).

Tambling will be in Franklin's shadow for the rest of the his career unless he wins a Brownlow. It is a tough position but regardless of what draft pick he was, he's been in the system for five years and still can't get a kick. Should go at season's end.

Like Brad said, Ottens had enough and walked. Not Wallace's fault.

The forward line is the problem. Defence will be fine. McGuane, Moore and Thursfield as key defenders, with Raines, King and Newman back there. Midfield is OK with Deledio, Foley, Brown, Cotchin etc. Once they moved Richo up there however, Wallace has taken away the only imposing forward target we had. Riewoldt (at the moment) doesn't have the impact, but he'll get better with a couple of seasons in the gym. Morton isn't key position, Schulz has been ordinary (see Tambling) and Cleve Hughes (who was drafted to be Richo's heir apparent) can't get a game.

I feel for the midfield and back half, looking up to kick the ball inside 50 and not seeing a whole lot to kick to with confidence.

If we can't beat Melbourne on the weekend, Wallace may as well hand it over. Won't make it from 0-4.

Pag - Whats the deal with Cleve Hughes? Had a couple of games last year with decent output, but can't seem to crack it regularly .. Were those games "flash in the pan" jobs, or does he look to have the ability to make it?

If it's the latter, I'd guess he'd need to put a half reasonable season on the board pretty soon?

Wells is a little different i think.

Has all the talent in the world, and has the attributes to be one of the very best players in the AFL but he is just plain lazy, does not get to enough contests, can not shake a tag and needs to work harder. That is the bottom line.

Yeah I know mate, my assertion was that they were both expected to be "greats" from the minute they were drafted .. Hefty tag to carry around.

He had a couple of good games mate, and showed he has the talent to make it, but apart from that did very little, and can't get his way into a struggling side with no key forwards, so his form for Coburg from mustn't be that flash either. Young key position guys tend to take a bit longer, but you're right, he needs to string some decent seniors games together or whoever takes over from Plow (assuming we miss the finals) may not think he's worth keeping on.

They might not have a lot to kick to but there is still some ok forwards up there, Richo has spent a bit of time there in the last couple of weeks, Riewoldt is leading hard, Brown and Morton are good players and Schulz while i think he is useless can provide an option. The problem is the skills are atrocious, nothing to do with the forwards i dont think, blokes are missing targets from 20 metres away and that is simply not good enough. Blokes are missing targets coming out of the backline and through the middle which almost almost always results in a score.

Backline is not great really either,

McGuane, Moore and Thursfield are Ok at best, Raines is injury proned and will be lucky to get back to his best (I Hope he does) King is slow and does not give his opponent enough respect (see Higgins on the weekend).

Midfield is solid without being exceptional, need a quality inside midfielder IMO.

WB were pretty lack lustre on Monday and they still won by 8 goals and pretty easily really. Lose this sunday and it is bye bye Terry.

Just i have never thought Tambling could rise to those heights, Wells on the other hand.

Yeah see I dunno, I thought I saw some really good signs in Tambling at the end of last year, but to be fair I haven't seen enough of the Tigers this year or last to make a reasonable assessment.

So I've heard. What, there's no hurry or anything? Get him in, if he carves, let him carve, if he's injured again, make him into glue. You can't keep him wrapped in cotton wool.

That may be so, but I think it's an absolute disgrace that so-called "supporters" would boo one of their own players, no matter the game. As Blighty used to say, "Never forget how hard it was to play the game". Not that he always followed his own teachings (pathetic Pittman etc.)! But still, I'm sure most that were booing have never laced up a boot in their lives. [-X

Its the way it is. Nothing new.

Every club would have supporters that Boo certain players that play for their club. I agree it is a joke but unfortunately it will never change. I feel sorry for the scapegoats that each side has.
