Talk on the national game

Patrick Dangerfield - Rising Star Nom Rd 3

Postby Browny25 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 2:40 pm

ADELAIDE teenager Patrick Dangerfield is the Round 3 nominee for the AFL's Rising Star award. The 19-year-old midfielder, in his fifth AFL game, collected 20 disposals and kicked a goal in Adelaide's 24-point victory over Fremantle on Sunday.

Dangerfield was recruited from the Geelong Falcons at pick 10 in the 2007 national draft.

There is no doubt that Dangerfield will be a gun, lets just hope he stays in Adelaide for his career!

How exciting was he and Walker on Sunday!! :D

Lets hope he wins it - i have a nice sum on him at $61 !!! Can't get anywhere near those odds now. Also backed Walker at the same odds.

Unfortunately he and Brad Ebert are both going to have to deal with comparisons over the years, I predict. Which is unfair on both as neither made the drafting decision and both should be able to play out their careers without a season by season "who's better" debate.

Ken McGregor said last year that, while he tried to ignore the Pavlich comparisons, it did play on his mind in the early years. As he said, all 16 clubs passed on Pav but it seemed to get pinned on the Crows and him.

Well done Patrick Dangerfield =D> After a dry spell since about 2001 (Brent Reilly) that's now 1 nomination in 2008 and 1 so far this year. You'd think Petrenko and Walker would be a chance at some stage too.

Well done young Rodney. As others have said lets hope most of his 200+ games are with Adelaide.

I think Adelaide knew exactly what they were doing when they picked him, he will be worth a lot more to Adelaide than the crap that's been bandied around about him versus Brad Ebert. Unfair to both lads to compare but I reckon Dangerfield will be more versatile in MHO

It was great to load up the AFC site and read the headline; he absolutely deserves it. The hype surrounding our youngsters is really starting to build in Victoria which is...not what Adelaide supporters are used to seeing.

Danger has worked his way into the season quicker and in more impressive fashion than I thought he would after having an interrupted pre season. He has already cracked the 20 possession mark once while racking up the clearances and kicking a couple of goals to go with it. Most pleasing has been the quality of his kicking. There was talk since draft day that his biggest weakness was inconsistent disposal but thus far he seems to be hitting all of his targets - his delivery inside 50 has been nothing short of exceptional at times. His kicking action and ball drop both seem to be pretty sound...one wonders if it was simply a minor, non-fundamental aspect of his technique that was able to be corrected pretty quickly by the club. Hope so!

It is unfair but it is the way it is. People will continue to do it for a long time to come. Both are going to very good players. Give them 5 years each then we will see.

Edit- Well done to Dangerfield as well, thoroughly deserved.
