ROUND 15 FIXTURES

Top eight teams in bold.

Hogg Shield

REB vs. Bleu Boy
Parko vs. SBJAC
Woggy vs. Pup
Cub vs. Mighty Eags
Gingernuts vs. The Real Number 3
Hammo vs. Trunky
Reignman vs. The Wog
Booney vs. Carlos

The top eight was decided in Round 14 with only the percentage poor Testaccio winning thier match to advance to seven wins. Cub shut the door on the chasing pack when he scored a sensational upset win over Mr Football who got donuts from Pavlich and Milburn and he remains in the top four by the slimmest of margins over yours truly. The only thing that will be decided this round will be who makes up the top four. Hammo will take on wonder elephants and Hammo needs to win this one to wrap up the minor premiership for the right to play 4th place next week in the finals. Reignman is breathing down his neck and should account for the Wog in the last round. Pup takes on Woggy this week in another important match as the REBCats takes on Bleu Boy and should advance to eleven wins. SuperCoaches everywhere will be sweating on the inclusion of Gary Ablett and Matthew Pavlich and this could prove to be a decisive factor in this week's final minor round. The Hogg dropped to 4095 down from 3955 last week due to many of us opening up donut shops.

Round 14 High Score: 2089 (Reignman)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Round 14 Low Score: 1176 (Mighty Eags yet again)
Season Low Score: 886 (Mighty Eags)

Div II

Habib vs. Tom Hafey
Cub II vs. Benny Boy
Nathan vs. Reignman II
finn vs. Jared
Luke vs. Punk Rooster
Shan vs. Hearts on Fire
blood5 vs. Carey
Carlos II vs. REB II

In Round 15 there will be a play off for the last spot in the eight with 8th ranked Carey's charonnays taking on bloodstainedangel5 Fenders in what would have been match of the round except for the long awaited play off between Black Magic and the Bird of Prey, the top two sides in the league. Reignman has been unstoppable in recent weeks and if he can bring down the Bird then he will take the minor premiership and will be a tough SuperCoach to knock off during the finals. A special congratulations goes to Shan's Harkaway Collies who have lost all fourteen matches so far this season and looks set to bring up the donut for the year unless he can defeat Hearts on Fire. In round 14 the league went to down to 5560 from 5555.

Round 13 High Score: 2239 (Nathan)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Round 13 Low Score: 945 (Luke again)
Season Low Score: 945 (Luke)

2008 HOGG SHIELD FINALS WEEK ONE

Hogg Shield

Elimination Finals (losers out)

1st Elim Final: (5) the wonder elephants Trunky vs. (8) The Ginger Ninjas Gingernuts
2nd Elim Final: (6) Hawkeye Woggy vs. (7) FOOTY LEDGENS Cub

Qualifying Finals (winners week off)

1st Qual Final: (1) Poon Army Hammo vs. (4) REBCats REB
2nd Qual Final: (2) Team Bring It Reignman vs. (3) Mr Football Pup

Hogg Shield Relegation Matches (losers relegated to Division II)

1st Minor Elim Final: (13) Hurts so Bad Bleu Boy vs. (16) Mighty Crows Mighty Eagles
2nd Minor Elim Final: (14) Duds and Injured Carlos vs. (15) Was it the Chad? Booney

Hammo wrapped up the minor premiership and sent the wonder elephants tumbling out of the top four and with finals time upon us four Ipswich coaches have made the top eight. Gingernuts' form has dropped away a bit in recent weeks and will be lucky to survive the angry elephants and Cub should be able to advance as we all know how the Hawks go in finals ha ha. At the top end of town Hammo should clean up the DonutCats (darn Heath Shaw!) and Reignman is also in a bit of trouble with injuries and drinkeries affecting his chances. Exepect Mr Football to advance to the Prelim here.

Also this week we have the dreaded Relegation finals. The loser of these two games will lose their spot in the Hogg in our perpetual quest to improve the league. Mighty Eagles has been the worst team all year and his side is frankly unsavable. Blue Boy will be back next season. The other game between Carlos and Booney will be a much closer affair but Carlos has neglected his side for most of the year which means he should have a few more points up his sleeve than the tradeless Was it the Chad. Bye bye Booney.

Round 14 League Ranking: 4095
Round 15 League Ranking: 3962

Round 15 High Score: 2337 (Hammo)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Round 15 Low Score: 1408 (Mighty Eags)
Season Low Score: 886 (Mighty Eags)

Div II

Elimination Finals (losers out)

1st Elim Final: (5) Habib's Boys Habib vs. (8) The Fenders bloodstainedangel5
2nd Elim Final: (6) Punk's Roosters Punk Rooster vs. (7) the chardonnaysfinn

Qualifying Finals (winners week off)

1st Qual Final: (1) Black MagicReignman II vs. (4) FOOTY LEDGENS Cub II
2nd Qual Final: (2) Bird of Prey Nathan vs. (3) Straycat StrutREB II

A quick look at the second division finals shows that three of the top four are in fact ineligible to be promoted to the Hogg Shield competition next season. I also have no idea whatsoever who 'Nathan' is so this week's Elimination finals may prove to be the 'promotion' finals and are therefore more significant than who might actually win the league which will probably be Black Magic on recent form. The first Elimination final is between two AFLOnline posters with The Fenders being a side that has a very high representation of Sydney Swans players. The Swans might have turned the corner a bit last week and should do well against Fremantle at home this week and this could make The Fenders very competitive. Habib's boys got a massive score last week though so this final is very tough to call. I reckon Habib might get over the line and thus into the Hogg Shield next season. The other Elimination Final is between 'our' very own Punk Rooster and finn. Punk Rooster was a runaway leader of this league earlier on in the season but has fallen away a bit in recent weeks and might suffer due to the Shaw and Didak incident like many SC coaches. The chardonnays have been very inconsistent but finn's best performance will be enough to send Punky packing. I reckon that Punky will hold on but only just.

In the Quallies it is going to be hard for the Cub to unseat Black Magic but with Milburn, Shaw, Didak and Porplyzia being unavailable that gives the Cub a big chance. Reignman can't replace them all and might find himself being overtaken by Cubby who will get the week off. Now the last time my Strutties played this Nathan bloke I lost by six friggin points. I've lost Shaw as well but Stiffy is back this week so I might have the points to reverse the situation and join my lad with the week off. If Laidley selects Riggio this week that would also help me a lot.

League Ranking Round 14: 5560
League Ranking Round 15: 5582

Round 15 High Score: 2324 (Habib)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Round 15 Low Score: 1112 (Luke)
Season Low Score: 945 (Luke)

Good luck to everyone except Hammo.

2008 HOGG SHIELD SEMI FINALS

Hogg Shield

Semi Finals(losers out)

1st Semi Final: (1) Poon Army Hammo vs. (5) the wonder elephants Trunky
2nd Semi Final: (2) Team Bring It Reignman vs. (7) FOOTY LEDGENS Cub

The top two sides find themselves relegated to the cut throat semi final weekend after quite frankly pathetic showings in their opening finals. Hammo in particular should hang his head in shame after failing to defeat the REBCats who went in with two donuts. Reignman was always going to be up against it against Mr Football with so many players unavailable for selection. In the knockout finals last week Trunky top scored in the division to dispose of Gingernuts as expected and Cub also racked up a high score to end Hawkeye's season. This week a still less than full strength Bring It faces the suddenly rejuvenated Cubby who is back in form in no uncertain terms. A lot will depend on the avialability or otherwise of Geelong's Paul Chapman. Bring it will need a full roster to advance to the prelim final. Hammo should be able to bounce back against Trunky but of course everyone is hoping that he wont ha ha. As for REBCats and Pup's Mr Football, we will enjoy the week off and watch avidly as the other four sides belt the 5hit out of each other.

In the relegation battle it was Carlos and Blue Boy who avoided 'the drop' and both will be invited to participate in the Hogg Shield again next season. This is good because we all need that guaranteed four points that Carlos offers in the first ten weeks of the season. Booney and Mighty Eags were the relegated teams so perhaps they can do better in less illustrious company next season..that is unless they don't hang themselves in the barn in shame over the summer months.

Round 15 League Ranking: 3962
Finals I League Ranking: 4082

Finals I High Score: 2123 (Trunky)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Round 15 Low Score: 1340(Mighty Eags)
Season Low Score: 886 (Mighty Eags)

Div II

Semi Finals (losers out)

1st Semi Final: (1) Black MagicReignman II vs. (5) Habib's Boys Habib
2nd Semi Final: (2) Bird of Prey Nathan vs. (7) the chardonnays finn

Unless I can track down this Nathan bloke, it looks like Habib and finn have won their way through to the Hogg Shield in 2009. Habib won a close match under duress with many missing to advance to the Semis and will this week play Reignman who has not had a glorious start to his finals campaign in both divisions. Meanwhile in the SAFOOTY.net match, finny's chardonnays turned the Punk Roosters into a feather duster to advance to his Semi against the mystery man Nathan who's Bird of Prey side fell prey to the Straycats who are strutting. Black Magic should be able to account for Habib's boys this week but I reckon finn can keep going and send the Bird on his way.

League Ranking Round 15: 5582
League Ranking Finals I: 5611

Finals I High Score: 2113 (Cub)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Finals I Low Score: 1265 (Shan)
Season Low Score: 945 (Luke)

Again, good luck to everyone except Hammo.

2008 HOGG SHIELD PRELIM FINALS

Hogg Shield

Prelim Finals(winners through to Grand Final)

1st Prelim Final: (4) REBCats REB vs. (7) FOOTY LEDGENS Cub
2nd Prelim Final: (3) Mr Football Pup vs. (1) Poon Army Hammo

Down to the business end of the Hogg with four sides playing off this weekend to reach the 2008 Hogg Shield Grand Final. The Cub will play against the old man in the first Prelim Final after Cubby cleaned up the unfortunate Reignman who had no luck at all in the final series to go out in straight sets. No Internet priveleges for the Cubby this week ha ha. In the other Prelim the reigning premier Hammo will take on the impressive Mr Football which has been brilliantly coached by Pup all year long. The winner of the second Prelim would probably enter the Grand Final as premiership favourites after Hammo appeared to get his mojo back last weekend by racking up over 2000 points after his feeble effort in the first final.

Finals I League Ranking: 4082
Finals II League Ranking: 4132

Finals II High Score: 2078 (Hammo)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Finals II Low Score: 1533 (Bleu Boy)
Season Low Score: 886 (Mighty Eags)

Div II

Prelim Finals (winners through to Grand Final)

1st Prelim Final: (4) FOOTY LEDGENS Cub II vs. (2) Bird of Prey Nathan
2nd Prelim Final: (3) Straycat Strut REB II vs. (1) Black Magic Reignman II

It is all going according to the script in the Magoos with the top four sides qualifying for the Preliminary Final round. Bird of Prey is the only team coached by someone who isn't a Hogg Shield coach but as mentioned earlier I haven't been able to track down the guy so he probably won't be flying up to collect his reward for a fine season in the Hogg second division. Bird of Prey bounced back to form last week scoring 2114 points to defeat the unlucky chardonnays who also passed the 2000 mark. Reignman finally had a win in a final by accounting for Habib and he'll play the Strut but he'll need to rack up more than he did last week to advance.

Finals I League Ranking: 5611
Finals II League Ranking: 5625

Finals II High Score: 2114 (Nathan)
Season High Score: 2462 (Cub)

Finals II Low Score: 1607 (Benny boy)
Season Low Score: 945 (Luke)

The 2008 Hogg Shield has been run and won. The winner of the Hogg Shield for 2008 is Pup who defeated yours truly in the Grand Final. Pup's team 'Mr Football' was one of the leading teams all year and he wisely held back some trades for the business end of the season where I had to burn all mine just to make the top four.

In the second division Cub won the grand final against guess who, yep, me again so I'm feeling a bit like the Glenelg Tigers at the moment.

Stay tuned in March next year for more Hogg Shield invites as we all try to knock the mighty Pup off his perch. Pup is top dog in 2008!

Congratulations to Pup and thanks to all who played in the Hogg Shield this season.
