I'm shit at these. I always forget someone.

F- Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett Snr
HF- Hird, Carey, D Jarman
C- Matera, Williams, Ablett Jnr
HB- Archer, Jakovic, Wanganeen
B- Silvagni, Scarlett, McLeod
R- Cox, Voss, R Harvey

Int- Cousins, Judd, J Brown, Lloyd

I think Micheal ahead of Silvangi and Scarlett is simply laughable. Micheal was a very good footballer but a fair way short of SOS and Scarlo. Whenever it comes down to debate about Scarlo and SOS it is impossible as SOS played on better forwards but the current rules make it impossible for backmen. SOS, the master holder just wouldn't have been as effective with todays rules but I'd back Scarlo to be just as effective, at least defensively as the great Blue. I've always thought that the 10 goal bag that Essbee is on about is what got him the fullback of the century gig over Regan.

Another poster called SOS the most overrated footballer in history but clearly that award goes to Nathan Buckley. Did he go and get the ball like Williams? Did he have a penetrating kick of Cousins? Could he run flat out all game long and shake out of tackles like Robert Harvey? Buckley was nothing more than a glorified Nick Stevens. If he didn't play for Collingwood he wouldn't have gotten half the accolades he did IMO. He doesn't get a jumper in my side.

Darren Jarman has been overlooked by many but this man delivered that 97 Grand Final to the Crows with his brilliant individual performance and he was quite simply in a class of his own. A great footballer to watch and this is from someone who has no time for the Crows and even less for the Hawks.

I've also put Matty Lloyd into my side. He is now Essendon's greatest goal kicker and is the best full forward of his generation. I sometimes think his achievements have been overlooked because of the ability of the big three of the late 80's and early 90's. Lloyd at his best is unstoppable.

I agree with Dutchy that Archer must be selected. Archer at his best was a fearsome unit and a key component of the powerful North units that dominated AFL football in the 1990's. I have also selected Gary Ablett Jnr. While his best football may be ahead of him he is the best current AFL player for mine currently at the height of his powers. The amount of possesions and what he does with them makes him a special player.

Always seem to generate a lot of debate these threads.

REB it was very hard for me to leave one Darren Jarman out of the line up, easily the most skilful player I have seen. I put Aker ahead of him only because of 3 premiership medallions and the brownlow (I know D.Jarman has won 3 flags also) Trust me a very hard selection.I would not put tuck in my side as he played only 2 years in the reformed afl competition.

Archer? Who is standing the 6'2 half forward? A drisgrace not to have Harvey in there also

Riccuito was a good player but not one of the best in the past 19 years..
.

Yeah, i think it's his 8 All Australians (2 as Captain), 3 Crows best and fairests and Brownlow Medal that confuses people into thinking he was good.

Well, Crawford's 300 games, 4 Best & Fairests, countless AAs, Brownlow, 6 years as Hawthorn Captain and International captain never seems to impress anyone either. It never ceases to amaze me how people under-rate his achievements because je mucks around in the Footy Show.

I'm never interested in teams like this, they are subjective and have no basis for selection. The AFL's feeble Team of the Century helped me realise what a waste of time it is trying to compare players.

I put in D Jarman ahead of Akker because he was a better player. Playing in flags doens't necessarily make you the better player. Is Aaron Keating better than Gary Ablett or Tony Lockett? I also think Tuck was well down the list of Hawk champions of the era and many Hawk fans, while they love the tough old bastard agree.

Sorry Hawker but Crawford does not belong in the company mentioned here. He might be the stand out Hawk during the late nineties and early noughties but that is hardly a glittering era for the Hawthorn football club (or Geelong for that matter!). The International rules stuff is meaningless. Most of the top players couldn't be arsed playing in it. The years of Hawthorn captaincy and the 4 B&Fs, while being notable achievements at club level merely speak of Crawford being a big fish at a small pond at the time. The Brownlow medal and AA gongs are the more significant achievements that shouldnt be belittled by a mere REB or anyone else but I wouldn't include Crawford in my best team of the last 19 years. However this is based on merit and nothing to do with a Victorian variety hour that I stopped watching about ten years ago now.

Yet you made an SANFL team up for each letter of the alphabet on the history forum? Same thing isn't it?

I think it's interesting to see people's "fantasy" teams, but tend to agree with you when it comes to "official" teams such as the AFL's team of the century. Far too subjective and the debates should stay at front bars and forums such as this one.
