Throwing another player into this mix, Rockliff. He's apparently asking for $800K from the Lions, is he worth it? Would you pay that to have him in your team?

I probably wouldn't, but you'd need inside info as to where their cap sits, and what projections they have for other contract requirements in the near future.

Sounds like there will be a few pretty good gets in the offseason.

Kingy had a good stat the other day.

Rockliff got 38 touches and had 19 metres gained.

Basically he doesn't hurt you.

Gaff no chance to leave

Was mentioned on radio a week or so back that he was thinking of heading back to Victoria and a couple of clubs were after him

As opposed to Kingy who makes up 38 stats and 19 of them are utter crap[emoji6]

In DK's defence he showed some pretty damning footage of Rocky ball watching and allowing his opponent to burn him with ease at the other end (ie, in front of goal).

I don't see Rockliff being there (or being near his best) by the time Brisbane are potential contenders again, so my initial comment was based on an opinion that in all likelihood it was too much to spend on him (unless they have a heap of cap space),

Always wondered whether these metres gained stats are just your own posessions or whether they take into account what the next guy does. Assuming that kicking 50 metres to an opponent doesn't get you 50 metres gained, but what about a handball that goes back 1 metre but puts a guy into space who runs 20, kicks 50 and finds a team mate on his own? Or the old chain of hands around a stoppage that ends up with someone breaking clear?

I believe it's just their possessions. But I agree that sometimes they are misleading.

Greg Williams would have had very little metres gained but he was the extractor of the ball and was very damaging

It can be misleading for sure.

But not all of his 35+ are handballs in traffic. I think it's more a reflection of short sideways chip kicks etc.

Danger ziebell Shiel Scully Mitchell Selwood Ablett all mostly inside mids and all inside the top 20 in the afl for metres gained (along with mostly kicking half backs)

Rocky is also roughly 30th in the afl for both contested possessions and clearances.

Does get a lot of tackles though.

Agree, should be kicks and run with the ball only....hand balling backwards is more dangerous than a handball forward most of the time.
