Podsiadly - would he be an asset?

Postby X Runna » Thu Oct 03, 2013 2:51 pm

Hearing Podsiadly was delisted by Geelong got me to thinking........with the club expressing it was after another key forward, I think he could be a great short-term fit.

Even though he shows bucketloads of potential, we are still in the dark about John Butcher long term. If he doesn't come good in 2014 I reckon the club will move him on.

If Podsiadly was taken on a year by year deal, knowing he was there to educate Butcher, and may not play every week - I reckon that would be a win for the club, for Podsiadly, and for Butcher who would be able to take the time to get right & it would ease a bit of pressure of him.

The club would then know relatively early in the season whether Butcher would be around the season after, and if not, get an early start on recruiting an established, quality player for 2015 onwards. If we had to wait for another year, so be it - as a 3rd forward I'm sure we could get 2 solid (35-40 goalsish) years out of Podsiadly.

Thoughts anyone?

While I really can't see us getting him, I think he would be good for Butch and Shaw, and a ready made replacement for Schulz if he was to go down.

No way.

If we were to recruit Pods it would stand in the way of us seeing if Butcher has what it takes.

This year is big for Johnny (understatement of the year!) and if he fails this season surely its pack your bags.

Hinkley has a lot of praise for young Mason Shaw, and only if Butch fails, will Hinkley perhaps look at other options via the trade period next year until Mason is ready.

Still baffles me why Ken wont at least look at Jesse White though...make Butcher earn his stripes against a youngish lad looking to establish himself as the teams go to forward.

It would help Butcher, not impede him if Podsiadly was recruited in the role I mentioned above.

Hinkley looking for trade options until Shaw is ready maybe.....Podsiadly !

I like the idea of Jesse White too, but I don't think he is the answer as a key forward, nor do I think he is someone who can help Butcher. I see White as a bigger version of Westhoff, without a real definite role, yet Posdiadly is a genuine hit-up forward which is what Hinkley wants.

I'd take Podsiadly on a one-year deal. I think Butcher has just about run out of chances, and I agree that Pods would be a great short-term fit until we can blood an up-and-comer into a ready made senior player. There's also no harm in having depth in a squad.
