Talk on the national game

R24 - West Coast v Adelaide

Postby Gingernuts » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:25 am

A few changes to the side this week:

B: Johncock, Rutten, Talia
HB: Doughty, McKernan, Reilly
C: Sloane, van Berlo, Mackay
HF: Petrenko, Tippett, Vince
F: Henderson, Walker, Douglas
R: Jacobs, S. Thompson, Dangerfield
Int: Armstrong, Callinan, Tambling, Wright

Emerg: Maric, Smith, L. Thompson

In: Callinan, Doughty, Henderson, Tambling
Out: Gunston (shoulder), Martin (groin), Otten (concussion), Riley

And so comes to a close a long and frustrating season. West Coast to win by about 40 points IMO.

Yes GN very frustrating season, but one that has shown the future of the club. The Adelaide media and some supporters over estimate ability and the time it actually takes for them to develop. Coach was the easy target and he fell on his sword!

Positives - Wright, Gunston, Petrenko, Talia, Thompson, Sloane, Van Berlo (last half of season), Jacobs, Otten, Johncock

Dissapointing but must keep - Doughty, B Reilly, Rutten (good first half of season)

Need to see more of - Armstrong, Smac, L Thompson, A Riley, B Smith (good first year though)

hoping for more next year from - Douglas, Mckay, Porpas, Callinan (injury) Tippet (poor delivery, worked his ass off though), Vince (pre season required), Henderson (consistancy)

Good assessment FS - Although I do think people assess Doughty very harshly still. He has been reasonable this year. Sure, he went missing during various games, but who didn't?

Definitely some good talent on the list. Time, patience, and hopefully positive influence from a new coach will continue to develop it next year hopefully.

I have supported Dogga and Radar when others have bashed them. IMO they arent 'leaders' 'match winner', they are the blokes who play good honest footy with the 'leaders' 'match winner' around them.... They dont set the standard or tempo of the game. They were victim of circumstance this year i reckon. Radar's game on the weekend was great 28 touches at 80% efficiency. Dissapointing season as far as their usual solid standard

I think that's the key point too, these blokes aren't match winners but every one has expected them to be this year due to their experience, and lack of genuine matchwinners in the line up at the moment.

In reality they are the workhorses, and won't be anything more. It's not a bad thing either, you need blokes like that in your side.

Would've liked to see Smith insteasd of Spudglas, and Thompson over McKernan.

Last weeks loss to Richmond highlighted how important Dogga is to the team. The backline was sorely lacking his leadership and direction.

Agreed 100%.

And in a way that's sad considering he is 32 and may retire.

Well another 'Subiaco Shocker' from our mob.
Having to endure Dwayne 'full of sh1t' Russell repeating the same crap over and over again is rubbing salt into the wound
Think I'll watch more of the other game tonight in the 2nd half.

Terrible game, finishing a terrible year with barely a whimper.

In a way I think it's good that the players and fans now enter the off season with no illusions as to the hard work that needs to be done during the off season. I think last year some good wins towards the end of the season gave people false hope of expected improvement this year.

This time round it's pretty obvious that there is a lot of work to do before we will be anywhere near competitive unfortunately. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if we have at least one more year in the bottom half of the ladder yet. :(

Taylor Walker and Talia both showed they have a long way to go as individual players, too.

Did anyone see Armstrong give the handball to Thompson and then get out of the way of Naitanui who chased Thommo down..
That in-action alone should mean he is delisted. Softest player on our list.

Would be good to see some Crows players run to protect instead of run to receive.

thank goodness the season is over but what a disappointing way to end. Chance for the club to totally refresh all coaching positions and to some degree refresh playing group
