WHEN Channel 10 lost the AFL rights this year, Corey Wingard contemplated his future.
The opportunity to take a voluntary redundancy as part of the network's mass job cuts then came at the right time for the Simply Footy host and seasoned sports presenter.
"I'm looking for a bit of a change and to see what's out there," Corey tells Confidential. "I had a few business ideas I had been working on in the background.
"Taking sport off (Ten's former sports-only digital channel) One and losing the AFL footy were deal-breakers for me."
After 12 years in the job - and 10 years and 250 episodes of Simply Footy under his belt - Corey made the big decision to take the redundancy and finish up at the end of the footy season.
It's a bittersweet moment for Corey, who has to farewell his show, similar to the way Keith Conlon has had to come to grips with Channel 9 axing Postcards.
"That (Simply Footy) won't go on next year because Ten don't have the footy rights, Ten have said that, which is a little sad," he says.
