I personally think McKernan doesn't realise his ability, and that he could be a better player than Tippett.

Symes is a borderline AFL player. He just irks me, because he doesn't seem to have that burst of pace. Some players just look worse than others when they screw up (a la Scott Stevens)

Im no Symes fan either, but at least he appears to have give 100%. I know Maric is on the outer, but why would we play blokes like Moran, Sellar, etc when a guy like Maric would bleed for the jumper. Im not saying for one minute Maric is the answer to any problems, but at least you know what you get with him. McKernan is worth a try in defence at some stage too i reckon.

Sloane continues to impress, he has great balance and does not go to ground easily. Petrenko was good yesterday too, i think he's better suited as a halfback/midfielder rather than a forward. Jaensch was ok again.

Dont go pushing the Maric barrow round here mate. Enjoy him spuding around at the magpies. We know what we get with him alright that is why he aint in the side and WILL be dumped come season end.

Some positives and still plenty of negatives to come from the game, however apart from the 2nd Quarter when we were horrendous, i thought we battled hard against a pretty solid side.

Positives
Sloane - Keeps doing the things that will make him be a top grade AFL player
Luke Thompson - did some good things and made few mistakes
Petrenko - Best game for at AFL level, his desperation to get the footy was fantastic and if he plays with that intent he will improve out of sight over the rest of the season!
Otten - looked like getting back to his 2009 form, read the play well and used the footy
Stiffy and Truck - Well what would we do without them
Vince - got his hands on the footy and used it, however his defensive side was still down
Wright - continues to show glimpses and looks like he will be a solid MID/Small FWD in years to come. Best thing is he can kick goals

Negatives

Chris Knights - is just going through the motions, his defensive actions were non existent. He has lost his pace and penetration and offers little to this side as we develop our kids
Sellar - Only getting a game due to injury and Talia will come in after he gets a few matches under his belt
Gunston - Don’t think he is up to it! The lad tries but looks like a deer in headlights atm, he isn’t overly quick and doesn’t mark well over head for a Medium size FWD
STOPAGES - we still got smashed on occasion and Kerr had a field day, however anyone would with Cox and Nik Nat putting it down your throat.
GOING FWD - Poor Tippet got bomb after bomb put on his head, what chance did he have.

In summary - we over possessed the footy at times but we tried to take the game on in the 1st and 3rd Qtr in particular. In the last they scored some cheap goals when we got sucked into the contest and the ball popped out straight to them. Take out the 2nd Qtr and the effort wasn’t to bad.

Agree with most of your assessment there FS.

They still have a lot of work to do with stoppages, there seemed to little adjustment (poor positioning) made by the midfielders to the Eagles' ruck dominance. Forward line delivery was horrendous, but there seemed (on tv) to be a serious lack of effort made to make any sort of lead by the forwards. Hurn must've felt like it was his birthday with the gifts given out.

I would nominate Reilly as another (continual) negative. The guy is seriously soft (has he ever broken a tackle?), lacks competiveness and like a few others really doesn't deserve a spot in the side at the moment. Although Knights was a partial exception to the lack of forward leads, he really butchered his opportunities and should've kicked at least 2 of the 3 shots he missed. You have to wonder if he is fully fit.

I thought we matched up well and competed well around the stoppages although convinsingly beaten (Due to Nik Nat and Cox), there midfield blocked really well hence Kerr's take aways, it wasnt poor checking just good clearance work from them.

I sat in the Northern stand and the eagles constantly switched through Knights area of the zone, he loped into position and never chased. I have been watching him closely over they past few weeks and he would have laid 2 tackles in 3 weeks? his tackling effort against Collingwood was  Give me Reilly over Knights any day as far as effort and enthusiasm

Id like to see Talia to CHB and Callinan to FP for Knights

Also re Hurn, he was loose because we dropped Gunston loose in defence  why i have no idea.
