Votes vs Hawthorn

Postby sapaul » Sat Mar 26, 2011 10:19 pm

A few people expressed interest in doing this and no one objected soo... :)

Just a 3-2-1 player of the year award I guess unless you wish to do rookie votes and/or best team man too.

Post your votes and I'll update at the end of each week :)

1. Sloane - was our most consistant player, even when things werent going well early, was at the bottom of every pack.
2. Dangerfield - 2nd half was outstanding.
3. Otten - very consistant all night, and was rock solid across half back.

Unlucky - Vince, McKernan, Davis, Van Berlo

I thought Tambling was fairly solid too, i think he will be a huge asset.

Davis was ok, but if Buddy had of kicked straighter, he may had 6-7 kicked on him. Was a fair way off BOG, IMO.

3 Vince
2 Reilly
1 Tambling

Those of you giving Dangerfield 3 votes obviously didn't see the first half. Yes he got us back into the game but the 3 above were more consistent over the whole game.

what did everyone think of Brodie Smith?
IMO (taking in to account it was his first AFL game), I thought he looked a bit lost at times and only had the one speed going at the ball. But, in saying that once he had the ball the kid is all class.
I think Brodie Martin and Matthew Jaensch were a bit stiff to be left out of team.

I thought Brodie Smith looked a bit lost early on but got better as the game went on. His attack on the ball was great and he has speed and a long kick! Big upside!

3 - Stevens
2 - Mckernan
1 - Vince

Very unlucky to miss out - Sloan, Tambling, Davis, Reilly, VB

Can't wait to see Danger turn it on for 4 quarters!!

I''m glad I'm not the only one who thought Sloane was our best. He was in everything - was suprised more people aren't singing his praises.

3 - Sloane - Probably a 'hindsight' vote, but playing through with a broken thumb and fractured jaw, say no more really.

2 - Tambling - An excellent debut for his new club, and although he muffed things up a couple of times he was put in a consistent 4 quarter effort and went in hard for the footy (layed a great bump on the boundary late in the game too!)

1 - Dangerfield - Deserves a vote for his turning it around after half time in such dramatic fashion.

Unlucky - Davis & McKernan.

General observations from the game:

- After initially looking to be a shoe in for a ruck spot, Jacobs might now find it difficult. McKernan's versatility is a real plus, he can play forward, back & in the ruck. With the sub rule this is priceless.

- Good to see Vince up and about, I thought it would take him longer to find form.

- Injuries a concern, but Martin & Jaensch can come in for Sloane & McKay without too much impact IMO.

All in all really happy with the game, unlike last year I feel the players have made a real statement on how they will play out this season. No doubt they will have their ups and downs, but if they display that sort of intent every week then we are in for a good year. :D
