The Footy Show

Talk on the national game

There are many other better footy shows going around these days, such as AFL League Teams on Fox Sports and the Marngrook Footy Show (was on NITV but I believe this has moved to the ABC now), so why anyone watches TFS is beyond me.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

I don't mind all the others - even Eddie when he was host.

The thing is, if/when Sam does go, the Footy Show will fold. He's pretty much the whole show.

I disagree. The format is fine - Sam just brings the whole show down with his small minded thoughts.

Then ask yourself why he dominates the show? The three current/former players say stuff all, and Brayshaw and Lyon add precious little more. No Sam, nobody would watch.

I've actually said for some time if they ever changed the format to serious football discussion, you could do away with the Brownless/Crawford types, certainly current players because they are limited in what they can say, but the one person I'd keep is Sam. On the rare occasion he stops making an ass of himself and talks footy, he had some great radical views worth listening to.

I sort of agree with you AH. Sam can be very thoughtful and incisive at times, and he has a great footy brain. He is also well liked amongst the current viewers and I accept that I may be in the minority who don't like him. I still reckon they should get rid of him though, his good points don't make up for his bad ones IMHO.

I still reckon the show could replace him with another ex-player funnyman who doesn't offend so much...

Fish, in a football world screaming out for original minds that don't think in cliches, Sam Newman is a blessing, but it's a pity he wastes it by electing to play the fool. I really don't think Sam is offensive, I like the way he tackles the issues, not scared to ask tough questions and speaks his mind. He offers a balance in a show full of people too scared to say what they really think, for one reason or another.

Unlike others, I actually applauded the way he tackled the Fevola issue. If we left it up to others on that show with their "mental illness is bad ... m'kay?" attitudes, we'd never learn a damned thing about it. Sam's approach encourages discussion which in turn encourages learning and understanding.
