Serious, it stopped any grey area about deliberates, kept the game flowing better and common sense is used for smothers, 50/50 contests, etc. Thought it was fantastic and well officiated. Helped remove a very ugly part of the game and not seeing a game or two without blokes kicking the ball along the line and out of bounds and instead to a contest was fantastic.
Each to their own though! :)

Watched a bit more footy on the weekend and am missing the out of bounds rule already. :(
I wish it stayed, made footy a lot better to watch.

Wegs, Wegs, Wegs... you having played the game would note that if they brought this rule in, and it was enforced, coaches would make basketball/soccer type tactics to get soft free kicks (which our game in it's truest form isn't about).

It would also mean that the game would be played two metres inside the actual boundary line, with no one from the opposition wanting to go near the ball if it was near the boundary, throwing their hands in the air basketball/soccer style to ensure the boundary ump knows it's not them that last touched it. It's a STUPID rule.

Boundary umpires have enough trouble working out if someone has the ball over the line in full let alone trying to ascertain whether x or y last touched it.

We keep hearing people say that our game is so great. If it is, why do we want to keep changing the rules?

If you like the rule, go and watch soccer.

Why soccer? In soccer they throw it in, in footy they throw it in!
I want it kicked in!
You are the one who should go watch soccer as you enjoy seeing it thrown in!
Unless you're referring to he corner but here's no corners on an oval!

Let's compromise and actually have the umpires USE the deliberate rule the way it was intended. ;)

Summantics..... last person who touches it, the opposition gets to bring it back into play - same difference for mine.

I agree, if the rule is correctly interpreted, then the rules committee wouldn't have to make up stupid rules to cater for it.

BTW, that kick in rule speeds the game up (as does the kick in from a point), but the interchange rule is in place to slow it down. I wish the rules committee and the AFL would get together and determine which way they're heading.
