There are 43 players on that list, compared to the 46 players in 2000 who started in the 80s (the last post I made in the link)

I think that 1999 had a few bizzare moments:
-The count of players between West Coast and St.Kilda at the WACA I think
-The mark by umpire Peter Carey
-The scoreboard fire at the MCG
-Malcolm Blight teaching Lucas Herbert a lesson by benching him for the whole match, while the Bulldogs overcome a 40 point deficit at three quarter time to win the game
-Port Adelaides' highest score for the season was a winning score, while their lowest was a winning one

SOS was the Full-Back of the Century,yes? ( Rog ? )

Surely Scarlett is the Full-back of all time.

Silvagni was the Full Back of the Century, which was a massive debate at the time over the claims of a few then-recent retirees in Dench, Southby but particularly Jack Regan at Collingwood in the 30s.

The debate on Silvagni v Scarlett at least is now on vaguely equal terms. They both have two flags, they both have long careers (310 games v 240 games and rising), they both have multiple all-australians ahead of some good peers and they both have excellent records against good forwards of their era. Scarlett has the advantage of greater team defence etc these days, but Silvagni had the advantage of some much more lax rules on defenders in terms of monstering an opponent, whereas the last 3-4 years hasn't allowed defenders to hold forwards.

Be a good poll question.

As for Scarlett, any Geelong supporter will say his last seven years have been quite amazing and he is far and away our most important player.

In the last three years, as he has stepped up a level again, there are now two Matty Scarletts that play for the Cats.

There is the Matty Scarlett who plays against opponents who he rates (Hall, Fevola, Lloyd, Brown). That Matty Scarlett doesn't usually get a lot of possession, but concentrates on just holding his dangerous opponent to ensure he's not a threat, and he wins more of these battles than he loses.

Then there is the Matty Scarlett who plays against opponents who he doesn't rate at all (I won't be rude enough to name a few of these players but they tend to stand out), and he just monsters these blokes in 1-1 contests, as well as spending the day running up the ground, feeding off possessions etc and gathering upwards of 20 touches and a dozen or more marks. Those are the days the Cats really run wild in the last few years.

If you're playing Geelong and you let Scarlett get more than 3-4 touches in the first quarter, that's a disaster for you.
