Cameron Bruce Quits Melbourne

Postby Brodlach » Mon Nov 08, 2010 8:29 am

Cameron Bruce has decided to quit Melbourne after only being offered a 1 year deal when he wanted 2 years. Being 31, 1 year is fair enough I think, but he is being linked to Hawthorn and of course Gold Coast.

My lad is a Melbourne fan and he won't be happy that Cameron the Bruce has walked. However, I believe the Demons did the right thing. A one year contract was fair in my view and any team offering him a two year deal is paying him overs. Little surprise then that Hawthorn is a suitor.

If he didn't have a commitment from another club for a 2 year deal he wouldn't have walked away from the one year deal offered by Melbourne. The same thing happened with Scott Welsh when he left the Crows. It's the risk clubs take when they enforce a policy of only offering 1 year deals to players over a certain age. If someone else thinks they are worth 2 years they will get him most times.

Wouldn't surprise me no-one picks him up, he'll then quickly accept a 1 year deal from the Dee's.
The Dee's will say "sorry buddy that was then this is now..... piss off"

Two year deal with the GC to give them some experience while they find their feet, and then he'll be 33, and ready to retire... Probably get one last decent payday there, not the case at Hawthorn...
