Say we take the second option of 5 kicks each. What if both teams get all 5? Do we start the 5 kicks again or play "first player to miss"?
That's a far more ridiculous set of circumstances to have to decide the GF.
So, everyone asking for extra time, look at all the scenarios that can happen and come up with a complete answer on what you'd do if they came up.
In the end if it is still a draw after all that it may come down to tossing a coin.
I'd rather the replay - it's not as though it is a frequent even like in Soccer.

Gotta love the replay, but they should play two ten-minute periods as extra-time, and then golden-point and or additional ten-minute periods if there's still no result after that ...
But yes, it was a pretty pointless comment wasn't it?!

I think what this has proved is the negligence of numerous parties in terms of organising events the week after a grand final (When we all know the rules). Slowdown was organised for next Saturday night, people organised weddings and end of season trips....How can people associated with football be so stupid? It has been a rule for 100 years.....play the game again!!!!
You can't have the rule where the higher placed side wins the flag because during the year if both teams split the H2H record during the year, have the identical for and against (Then also %) and the GF is a draw then who wins? What if a team finishes minor premier, loses the first final to the 4th side then they both win enough games and meet again in the grand final, why is that fair on the 4th side who won 2 weeks earlier?
Play it again!!

Ok WHUFC, if Central District were drawn with Norwood this Sunday after having a large lead through the game, but this was taken away because they ended the game with 17 fit pplayers on the park then how would you feel about the extra time rule???
I can see why they seriously changed the draw rule through the finals series as it throws out multiple clubs and multiple venues, but the grand final imho should stay the same as it is...

Wouldnt care reasons

1, injuries happen during games anyway refer to 2002, 2004 and 2009
2, have cricket next weekend so wouldnt be there anyway
3, normally that hangover from the this week i wouldnt be able to enjoy the following game
4, whose says we dont win in extra time, heroes are made on GF day
5, im looking forward to the after party THIS weekend (refer to cricket commitments)
6, what if it was Norwood who only had 17 fit men i would be even more annoyed

I think you would care, any supporter would be annoyed if they were in that position. But you do raise some valid points. My opinion (and it's not much) play it again.
This will go down as the most talked about grand final in the games history to date, gives the game more profile and as much people may have a whinge about coming back next week, 99/100 people will watch again this week and more people will tune in that didn't last week because of intrigue. The game wants more profile in GWS and GC, this is the best thing the AFL could have hoped for. It's the best form of reality television you can get.
Normally the league changes rules because the negatives outweigh the positives, what negative is there apart from having to cancel plans this week and next Saturday? I can't see a legitimate negative apart from what looks to be whinging.

So, as I asked earlier, what happens then in the event of it still being a draw at the end of extra time. Rock, paper, scissors perhaps?

Andy D has said THERE WILL BE A RESULT this saturday. extra time after extra time after extra time if need be.

at the start of this poll, i chose the "extra time" option. i was still a bit angry/sickened/emotional about what had happend. in the last couple days, i've started to see the positives for a full replay.

if i was to vote on this poll again, i'd say "full replay"

That was rubbish after the intensity of last week. Should've been extra time.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I thought I'd reserve my judgment until the 2nd game was over but after yesterday, definately 10mins either end. It just didn't feel right, players and fans set themselves for one big day not two. Massive let down yesterday couldn't get excited about it one bit

Just voted extra time. For me the fact that interstate teams would have to travel again was the clincher.

Also having just witnessed what could have been a draw in the SANFL I would prefer to have it all done and dusted on the day.
