It was said on Footy Classified tonight that Carlton have agreed to trade Jacobs to the Crows.

A couple things to remember here:

1. He is out of contract and wants to go to Adelaide. Carlton have to make the trade work otherwise he nominates for the PSD draft where he is a very good chance to get through to the Crows (GC likely to commit to a Giles/Fraser/Miller type player and other clubs wary of picking players who dont want to go to their club or state). Although not a great comparison similar PSD draft picks to get to their preferred destination include McPhee, Bradshaw, C Johnson, Scott Welsh.

2. Carlton would love to keep Adelaide in the picture regarding Walker to increase his trade value. Sure they dont have to release him as he is contracted but with the Bulldogs and Crows the 2 most likely bidding parties they need to keep the interest up. If they fail to get a deal done with Adelaide on Jacobs then this trade is dead in the water and they will have to trade him to Bulldogs who have committed their first 2 picks to F/S picks.

95% of the time deals get done where a player is out of contract and requests a certain club to be traded to. I have had a few different cracks at what we could offer but as Carlton are after players more so than picks the most likely offer we could put together would be Will Young + #26 for Walker and 3 way trade with Freo involving Jacobs, Tarrant and Griffin.

$1m for 3 years is the offer for Jacobs. . A 17 game ruckman gets paid more than the prime minister of the country  . I think the amount that AFL players get paid is obscene.

I agree and I also think pollies get paid more than they are worth.
I told Alexander Downer to his face that we made a mistake in 1901 when we agreed to pay them at all. ;)

However, big company CEO packages really define obscene.
I'd pay more to science and medical researchers than any of the above.

Edit: Thanks for picking up my typo, Chuck.

It may depend on how good a deal is possible.
He may bit needed in defence if some of the injured players don't come up in 2011, but so far he has not ever looked as good as he did in his first match.
[Was that the match against Collingwood in Dubai?]

There going to have to try to deal with Carlton in an exchange trade, what do the Crows have that Carlton want.

Trades can still occur, 3 way deals involving picks and players happen all the time. Clubs need to trade due to the the GC concessions so i think you will see allot happen still.

As for carlton, they are in need of forwards so you never know what they see as being worth having from us or another club

eg an AFC pick could go to NM who then pass on an Aaron Edwards to carlton and Jacobs to the crows

Could McKernan be of value to Carlton as a KPP in exchange for either Walker or Jacobs? Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want to lose him but when is he going to get an oppurtunity? With Maric & now Jacobs to hold onto the 1 & 2 ruck spots I can see him leaving for more game time.

He certainly could be of value, however i cant determine how much he means to AFC. They obviously think he is a talent, however how far behind him is Talia? our forward line is set for years to come with Tex and Tippet. Then trow in Talia and our tall depth is reasonable

I agree, but i think the Crows were relying on Griffen going to Fremantle, a Tarrant or etc going to Carlton and then Walker to the Crows.

What do Fremantle have to offer the Lions though?
