Appointed by the crows in 2007 as recruiting manager. Our draft picks since have been:
Dangerfield (#10)
Otten (#27)
Jacky (#30)
Cook (#38)
Armstrong (#58)
Kite (#71)
Walker (#75 nsw)
Davis (#10)
McKernan (#28)
Sloane (#44)
Lee (#60)
Young (#72)
Talia (#13)
Gunston (#29)
Shaw (#45)
Craig (#60)

Excluding the last draft (too early to judge) how has he gone? Who is the best n worst pick? Can be based on value or skill.

In my opinion best is danger, would have been easy to be short sighted in his first draft and go brad ebert but made a ballsy call. Worst is probably kite, had the ability but wasn't tough enough mentally. Plenty will say Jacky but opportunistic forwards are always hit and miss imo. Done a great job.

Bold = WIN, TBD I think we havent't have enough time to evaluate yet. Not too many fails on that list which is shows a pretty strong strike rate.

Best = Danger, Walker
Worst = Jacky

Walker has the most potential of the lot, and has shown glimpses. Dangerfield also outstanding.

Would be interesting to compare Rendell's selections against Fantasia's.

TBH I reckon Rendell has done a pretty good job.

Would be, just need to take into account Ayres overruling Fantasia on occasion (eg the Lawrence Angwin disaster).

Henderson was from the 2008 preseason draft, which is actually held in Jan 09. I didn't include rookies as they are often more speculative picks and recruiters are happy to take a bit more risk. From memory Henderson was a tip off from an unrevealed source who rang the crows up to recommend checking out Henderson at a basketball camp. So don't really credit this one to Rendell. Other rookies of note in his time are schmidt, martin and petrenko.
Also Walker was already nsw scholarship holder before Rendell took over so credit for this goes to Fantasia in my opinion.

Apparently he also overruled Fantasia on using the number 12 draft pick to trade for Bode. While Bode was OK to good for us, Port used the pick to draft Shaun Burgoyne .....

I think Armstrong and Young haven't quite done enough to suggest they have long term futures at the club but other than that I agree with the rest of them.

The crows have done very well in the comp since ayres somewhat ruined the club with his stupid choices trading away the first round draft picks which could of been used to draft very good kids. e.g. The crows 4th or 5th pick for carey which they used to pick daniel wells.

Think it was number 2 which we recieved for Kane Johnson but could be wrong.

I think that's right

According to wiki (wouldn't stake my house on this) we gave up draft picks 2 and 18. Other draft picks, Jason Torney, Kane Johson all seemed to move between NM, Richmond and Adelaide

NM used draft pick 2 on Daniel Wells. Number 3 was Jarrod Brennan and 4 was Tim Walsh (who?) to the Bulldogs. It seems a softer top 10 draft that year with the exception of number 1 .... Brendan Goddard. Imagine if the Crows could have somehow got Goddard :shock:

Trading for players is very different to recruiting, generally trading is done by teams to top up their lists or fill obvious holes. The Carey trade was merely an attempt at topping up the list in the short time frame that a premiership seemed possible. It's easy to criticize trades 5 years down the track when trading in old players for draft picks is concerned but I think we have been succesful overall as a club. Stenglein out, Thompson in for example. Even getting jars from hawks although I can't remember the details of him coming across.

I personally think the crows list currently has heaps of depth especially including rookies and I would happily trade our first round draft pick for a 29/30 year old.

Jarman was traded to the Adelaide Crows in a three-way deal that involved Paul Salmon moving from Essendon to Hawthorn, defender Sean Wellman moving from Adelaide to Essendon and a handful of draft picks and players exchanged between the three clubs.

The Carey trade was initially for #4 gained from richmond but carlton were then tossed from the draft for salary cap breaches and it became #2
Adelaide has repeatedly said that another deal would have been brokered if they knew that the #4 pick was to be number #2.
