Talk on the national game

Phil Davis

This may have been covered elsewhere, but why did the Crows drop him for this week?

Didn't he win the Rising Star nomination after the Geelong win? Surely you don't mess with a winning side?
Can't do much for Davis' confidence....

It wouldn't have made a difference to the end result of yesterday's match but it was a bizarre selection decision for mine.

With an eye to the future and Bock returning to the side, surely Stevens makes way for Davis?

You're right though, wouldn't have impacted on the outcome of the game.

Agree 100%, would no doubt have the lad guessing as to what he has to do to stay in the team. He would have done more than a couple of them did with one hand in his pocket.

I’m not sure just because you win the rising star nomination you should be exempt from being dropped the following week. Especially when we get to this stage of the year when a lot of the top performing rookies have already been nominated. It means that you could probably get a nomination without actually having to do much.

In this case tho I agree from what I have seen of Davis this year he has looked pretty good and certainly could consider himself unlucky to be dropped. I guess when the player he is keeping out of the team is uncontracted for next year and the GC circling perhaps the crows feel obliged to play Bock?

I can understand he had to make way for Bock but when both McLeod and Goodwin were ruled out I couldn't believe he wasn't recalled

I agree there, surely when Goodwin went out of defence, Davis would have been recalled. He wasnt playing CHB earlier in the year when Bock was in the side. Wasnt Bock standing Westhoff on the weekend at some point? not sure. Even so, could have had Davis hold down a position and allow Bock to run more free.

Well Bock for Davis will go down as a bad decision, but still such is life.

Agreed DW, he shouldn't of been dropped for Bock.
