Women AFL Umpires

Postby footy1992 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:22 pm

Women in the AFL. Its been a big topic in the media over the last few weeks with particularly umpiring in the spotlight. We have Chelsea (the only female in the AFL ranks) in the goals, but what is your opinion on having women officating our great game in the middle at the higest level?

IMO if they are of the ability to umpire at the highest level, why not!

I voted: Yes, just boundary and goal. If they look like the ones Dog_ger posted, it wouldn't be bad at all.

It made the local paper over here a few weeks ago, with our first female field umpire... She was fitter than the "experienced" ump, as well as half the players! Didn't make a blue all day (and that's a feat in itself), and had our umpires director spouting all manner of praise...

It's a definite yes to all from me...

The AFL coffers would be overflowing with all the fines for players making 'accidental' contact with an umpire :D .

Who cares? If they can do the job, doesn't matter.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
