It would be remiss of us not to salute Tony Wilson who passed away last week and had his funeral in Manchester yesterday.

He was the svengali behind Factory Records in the UK which was as famous for its ad hoc way of doing things as for the amazing music it produced (Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, Durutti Column, A Certain Ratio etc).

Fair to say he was more well known in his native land where he hosted music TV shows and broke a lot of new bands. He was also very controversial and shot his mouth off all the time - but was usually proved right.

See the movie '24 Hour Party People' with Steve Coogan which is a loose but hilarious retelling of the Factory / Wilson story.

Got his fame by co-hosting Granada Reports. A regional current affairs early evening program. Granada TV was one of the ITV network stations that broadcast throughout the Lancashire area before specialising in the entertainment wrap.
