Noise

New Australian film meets all the essential criteria:

Passive central character that does nothing? Check!

Plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon? Check!

Narrative that is all over the shop and generally doesn't make sense? Check!

Characters that are morons? Check!

Rave reviews from critics whose heads are obviously so far up their own ar$es? Check!

Millions of dollars pi$$ed away ($4.3m to be exact) on a film that nobody will see? Check!

Matthew Saville is now added to a growing $hitlist of Australian directors who owe me a money.

It's becoming quite a long list...

Golden era of Aussie flicks: 70s and early 80s

Gallipoli
Mad Max
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Breaker Morant

These days, too much focus on personal, angsty dramas that take themselves way too seriously. Memo to Aussie film industry: we have seen enough films about drug addicts for a few years.

We actually churned out more crap film during this time.

It was when the 10BA system meant anyone could make a film.

Though we also managed to pump out quite a few great films as well.

Funny enough, a lot of these great films were adaptations...

"Everynight, Everynight" is brilliant but pretty full on. Not a chick flick!

You don't buy Christopher Dale Flannery a leading man, a la Cary Grant? Robert Redford? George Clooney?

Any of them available to hire at Blockbuster that you are aware of?

Sorry hondo, I accidentally stuffed up your post when quoting it.

Second time I've done that to a poster now - such a friggin' luddite.

But yeah, they're all out on DVD.

Blockbuster should stock all of those titles - many have recently been re-released.

Also, those films were made by some of our biggest directors.

Beresford, Weir, de Heer to name a few...
