I'm after some direction here, I've heard its a great movie but my main problem is my son who is only 6 years old is very desperate to see it.
Don't worry about any gore, etc, when I took him to see Star Wars III he was covering my eyes in the gruesome bits not the other way around.
I've heard reviews its a great movie but I'm concerned that it takes about an hour before they even got to King Kong's island as I think Matty may get a bit bored in that part, has anyone seen it, do you reckon it would keep a youngster entertained the whole way through or does it spend too much time developing characters that would bore a 6yo?

Mrs Wedgie bought the 70s King Kong on DVD today for $8, that may keep him happy as by memory its mainly action and not much character development.

Thoughts, advice?

PS We've already got through about half of the PS2 game, he also loves Dinosaurs, especially T Rexes and he loves it when King Kong takes the T Rex out.

PPS Boo to Mrs Wedgie who took the kids to see Harry Potter and Narnia during her half of having the kids during school holidays, she leaves me with crap like Chicken Little.

If you want to bond with your son Wedgie - forget about King Kong. Take him to the Crazy Horse instead - the girls there will make a big fuss of him !!

Pfft to that rd, I took him there when he was 3 years old, he's past that now, more into cheap hookers now.

Took my nephew the other day Wedgie, and whilst I must admit the affects are pretty good, **** me I reakon it made "Titanic" look like a short story or at least felt that way (maybe it was because I finished my Popcorn during the previews?? ) ... Anyway, it is a seriously drawn out movie so be prepared for some "boring" time, my nephew (11yr old) was up quicker to leave than me when the lights came on and wasn't too impressed with it (should have suggested the cheap hooker option perhaps?)!

One thing I will say though, is that if you will see it in one form or another (Cinema or DVD) then I'd suggest you do it at the flicks where you can better appreciate the effects of the animation!

Cheers CP, just finished watching the 70s version with Matt, that might keep him happy for a while.

Wow, I never thought it was boring at all. It's as good as a big-budget blockbuster gets. It's a slow build that's faithful to the original but it's not like people are standing around doing nothing. The acting is superb especially when a lot of it would have been filmed in front of a blue screen. Except for our Naomi's juggling scene *cringe*.

Sadly the kiddies of today have no attention span. It'd do them some good to not expect instant gratification (a la all the current crop of Pixar-animated colour-and-movement marketing exercises that pass for movies) and appreciate that a story has a beginning, middle and more often a not, an end.

Except in the case of 'Broken Flowers' where there was plenty of middle but no **** end!!! Pah!

So I heartily recommend KK. I don't think there would be any danger of an infant being bored - I'd be more concerned about the violence which is graphic and realistic. Go for season 1 of Great Grape Ape instead.

Haven't seen it yet, but at just over 3 hrs long, it's trying to fit it in around lunch or tea.

Great movie except for the ending. Quite sad reallly. Went and saw Nardia Lion,Witch and Waredrobe yesterday, that was boring as hell unless you enjoy a fantasy world. I think i enjoyed a little kip half way through that!!!

My kids saw King Kong yesterday with their Auntie, their thoughts on if it is suitable for Matt.

Great movie, but I don't reckon it would be ok for Matt, too many gory bits.

Saw it yesterday, not bad, special effects are good, in some parts you can tell that it was sfx. Overall a good movie.

Well, i was going to go and see it on the premise that it was based on a true story!! But now after reading this i'm not so sure!!

I think its a true story based upon some of my drunken exploits over the years, just substitute the hairy monkey for hairy Wedgie and it'll seem realistic.
