news to hand pardon the pun
Kevin Crease has succumbed to cancer
THE first face of television in Adelaide has died. Kevin Crease, the popular Channel 9 newsreader, succumbed to cancer.
Crease, 71, had been off-air since February, when he returned from annual leave feeling unwell. Tests confirmed he had a serious form of cancer.
Breaking into radio after being noticed spruiking raincoats on the streets, he had been a fixture of the South Australian media for 48 years.
Crease was the first person on Adelaide TV screens when Channel 9 began broadcasting in 1959.
He also worked for Channel 7 and radio station 5AD. Crease was former premier Don Dunstan's press secretary from 1975 to 1977.
In April, 1987, he became a news presenter for the Channel 9 weeknight bulletin. His partnership with Rob Kelvin lasted for almost two decades.
"If I was up to it, I would still be reading the news," he said recently.

Please don't take this the wrong way...
Only one thing used to annoy me about Kevin Crease and Kelvin, each September and October they'd sit their bold as brass in their bloody Magpies ties reading the news.....Gee that got up my goat only thing I didn't like about him - bloody Port Supporters.....

What a sad, sad day. Sincere condolences to the family.
Had the pleasure of meeting the man when he use to come into my work in the 80's and a nicer funnier bloke you couldn't meet.

It's been odd not having him next to Rob Kelvin reading the news at 6. That partnership has always been a constant in the ever-changing world of television. A bright personality and a true credit to television news in SA. Condolences to his family and friends. People from all walks of life in SA will miss him.

R.I.P. Creasy.
I knew Creasy and Rob Kelvin through my old man. Former Channel nine journo Tim Parker (who also died of Cancer) was in my dad's band and I got to meet them both at a couple of gigs. One night Rob was looking at me in a sad way and I got the feeling he was thinking of Richard as I am two years older than his late son...it kind of creeped me out a bit.
Sad news all round and condolances to the Crease family. He'll be missed that much is certain.
regards,
REB

Such a Sad day for TV in South Australia. I will miss watching 6.00 news on the nine network when I am back in SA. I feel that Kevin Crease should be this years induction into the TV Week Logie Awards this year.

Cant believe how fast this has happened, but then again have a brother in law just diagnosed with grade 4 bowel AND liver cancer and he wont see the month out. How is it we can send man to walk on the moon, do heart and lung transplants and so many other miraculous medical life saving procedures but we cant arrest this. Looking at my BIL it almost seems the treatment is worse than the disease. The pain of kemo to allow him to live a few extra days is agony.
RIP K.C. didnt like your politics or your footy team, but mate you were a TRUE south aussie

Very sad day, the only times I watched the news was when Kevin was on.
I never had the priviledge of meeting him but my old man did and said he was just as he seems, a really top guy and a pleasure to be around.
Was a real shock, going to be sorely missed, SA TV will never be quite the same.
RIP Kevin.
