BILLY THORPE and the Aztecs, a truly iconic Australian band of the late 60s.
Baby boomer THORPE 60, died of a heart attack, with his family at his side.
For some of the younger people on this site he reminded me a lot of Jimmy Barnes.

THORPES 2 hits that propelled him to rock stardom were themes of mine.
Most People I know [Think that Im crazy] now thats me on SAFOOTY.
Over The Rainbow[1964]....This song is my favourite song, its the one that I have planned
for my funeral, Thorpes version a classic, the original sung by Judy Garland[Liza Minellis mum]
in the movie The Wizard Of Oz wayyyyyyyyyyy back in 1939.

Some highlights of THORPES career

196os TV show Its All Happening[never saw it]
The bands famous saying was " Suck more piss."
Book Sex and thugs and Rock n Roll
Book Most people I know was released in the late ninties and was best seller I
remember him on TV promoting his book like it was yesterday
Toured the USA in the 70s
ARIA Hall of fame inductee in the early ninties.

Like AH I am shattered, the great man was only 60, the curse of rock
stars dieing way too young continues.
THORPE was not here for a long time, but for a good time.
That roaring voice, those blues and rock renditions of his is folk lore in Oz

THORPEY RIP

Errr no. But I did have some difficulty stopping my wife (after a few champers) from going on stage and using her hair tie to tie his hair back.

Sad day for OZ rock. I have to admit I was never a fan of the guy's music but you can't deny the impact he had.
RIP Mr Thorpe.

Truly a sad day in the annals of OZ-Rock...
With the passing of legendary slide guitar Pete Wells last year...
As soon as I got home from work I had to put on
'Rose Tattoo: Live at Boggo Road Jail' DVD!
Very poignant, featuring a special guest performance by the Late Great Billy Thorpe.
With the Bon Scott Tribute coming up in Perth, featuring the Tatts, Angels etc.
I'm sure Thorpey would've made an appearance there as well!
He also supported Alice Cooper just recently here!
Also not forgetting the Cosmic Psychos cover of 'Most people I Know...'
& their guitarist Robbie Watts who passed away last year too!

R.I.P. an Australian Rock n' Roll Icon
