Watched Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) last night and was pleasantly surprised to see Sylvester Stallone had got back to his best as far as films go, it was in the tradition of the award winning original Rocky.
Excellent way to leave the series as opposed to the debacle that was Rocky V.
Good work Sly!
I'll be at the cinema on Jan 1 watching this again when it starts.

"Yo Adrian!"

Sylvester Stallone must be pushing 60!!!!
Not even George Foreman or Larry Holmes would put on the gloves at that age!

Who'd he fight?
Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, Hulk 'Thunderlips' Hogan, Altzheimer's disease?

Jokes aside, I wouldn't mind seeing it myself.
Only if it goes back to the grassroots style of 'ROCKY' & 'ROCKY II'

He fights the current heavy weight champion of the time but only in an exhibition match.
It is very much in the grassroots style of 'ROCKY' & 'ROCKY II' so you should go see it.

Well since the original,
(Batman's Penguin) Burgess Meredith aka trainer 'Mickey Goldmill' has passed on (in real life as well as in the ROCKY series)
Carl Weathers character 'Apollo Creed' was killed by "Fighter from the Soviet Union!" 'Ivan Drago' in ROCKY IV
I read somewhere Talia Shire (Rocky's wife 'Adrian') makes a very brief cameo in the film.
As for Burt Young aka 'Paulie'... I dunno! :?

His real life son from Rocky 5 is in it.
Paulie is in it.
The bald trainer (Apollo's original) is in it.

That's all that springs to mind.

Talia Shire definately isn't in it and you'll understand why pretty early on in the movie!

There might be a few others cleverly thrown in but as so much time has passed its hard to tell.

The little girl from Rocky 1 that Rocky walks home and then gets told by her "Screw you creepo" plays a big part of the movie believe it or not!

I'm a big fan of the Rocky series and probably one of the few that didn't mind Rocky V. For me the stinker was Rocky IV, dodgy 80's music (and that's by 80's standards), killing off Apollo and all that USA bull5hit, it just doesn't stand up at all. I reckon Rocky III cops a bad rap as well, Clubber was an excellent villian of the piece and the series hasn't really got the 'Eye of the Tiger' since then.

I never thought they'd make a Rocky VI though.....maybe I can play cricket next season after all.

regards,

REB

LOL I thought the dodgy 80's music was the best part of Rocky IV

I & II Classics, III "ok", 4+5 starting to resemble the Police Acadamy series ... You've given this one a good wrap Wedgie so that will get me along for a look.

Got knocked out by Ben Stiller in its opening weekend.

Might have been a 'low blow'...

Checked it out & was impressed, specially after the 80's cartoonish Rockys III & IV or the craptacular Rocky V...
Bit long winded in the drama department, but like the Rockys I & II that's what wins the Oscars!
The fight choreography was some of the best I've ever seen & didn't suspend disbelief at all!
Playing a punch-drunk aging pugilist Sylvester Stallone could've done with a few subtitles though.
But one fella who appeared in the film who would never need subtitles...
A personal hero of mine, the man in the tux.
A bloke who gets paid millions of dollars, gets to go to all the big bouts just to say those immortal words...
"For the thousands in attendance & the millions watching around the World,
Ladies & Gentlemen...
LLLLETS GET READY TO RUMBLLLLE!!!!"
The bloke with the voice Michael Buffer! 8)

Definitely Stallone's finest hour since Stop or My Mom Will Shoot!

I didn't appreciate it as much as Wedgie did - an absolutely ludicrous plot and sooooo predictable with every Rocky cliche under the sun you just tick them off one after the other (gets badmouthed at media conference, hooks up with shy girl, yeah...pummels meat, oops there goes a training montage, run up the steps? You betcha!). But like even the worst Rocky films (and this is no way near the worst Rocky films) the fight is incredible and makes it all worthwhile. A strong way to end the series. Mrs ZZ absolutely adored it BTW which freaked me out.

Bring on Rambo 4!
