Bea Smith is back!

Prequel about the Top Dog's life before prison and her early days behind bars.

Foxtel 2013...

Synopsis
We all know Bea Smith ruled Wentworth Detention Centre. She was gutsy and fearless. But who was Bea Smith before prison? How did a wife and mother from the suburbs become a top dog without rival? Where did the confidence and fortitude come from that enabled her to get there, and what injustices and misadventures fuelled her determination to do it? Wentworth is a dynamic, often confronting, drama series that begins with Bea’s early days in prison. Set in the present day, it’s a modern re-imagination of Prisoner.

It's one thing to bring back old characters like Lizzie and Doreen - but last I remembered Doreen wasn't indigenous...

and Meg Morris looks a bit hard- she wasn't hard

I don't have Foxtel either so I'll never know what it's like...

So does Lizzie.

Catherine McClements would've been a good "Vinegar Tits."

Tatts don't make Nicole de Silva as fearsome as the old Frankie Doyle.

Toni Collette would've great in any role in this.

Hope the dialogue stays true to the era...

Yeh, that's the first thing I noticed too (Lizzie and Doreen). I also noticed that Frankie was attractive and not "butch" like the original.

If it's any good FC, it'll be on youtube or available via download shortly after.

I suspect it'll be ordinary, especially seeing as they've gone with the same characters. For those that have seen the show, they'll compare the characters immediately. For those that haven't - what benefit will they find from having the same character names?

I think the use of the original characters is to give it a bit of hype, and so the potential audience can partially relate to the program.

Missed the first episode tonight, hopefully they will replay it before next week.

LOVED it tonight. It's grittier and harder edged than Prisoner was.

LOL, check the Foxtel guide out, its shown on about 6 different channels and replayed over 30 times!
I thought I'd save up the first 3 or 4 episodes before starting to watch and have it series linked on he HD channel.
Love they're using old characters names and rejigging the characters, it worked fantastically in Battlestar Galactica which did similar.

I guess we say that now but Prisoner was pretty cutting edge and confronting at the time too.

Still didnt' get to watch it though, I'll have to find a link somewhere.

Good to hear, will have to check out the programming schedule then.

Would be interesting to find out how they get to use the original character names - whether or not they purchase "the rights" off the original producer, or whether in fact the original production company is involved again.

Fremantle bought out Grundy's years ago so they own the rights...

Couldn't resist and watched it. Loved it. Love the way they've changed things up similar to Battlestar. Frankie is cute, Bea is good for her age, Mrs Jackson is the evil governor while Erica is a social worker and Vera is a nice prison officer, Lizzys a peer worker and Doreen's an aboriginal , even a Fletch the Letch.
Looks great :)
I won't give away the twist with what happened in the first episode with what was similar to the original.

All I heard all night at the pub was "your a clitty licker". And the ending got spoilt. Apparently it's good though.

One of the best parts of Episode 1 was (Spoiler Alert):

That mole Catherine McLements getting shanked - She annoys me in every show I've ever seen her in
