Ch 10/ONE programme changes / Sports Tonight to be axed

Five programs are vulnerable and may be axed in an attempt to cut costs at the network: Late News and Sports Tonight, 6:30 with George Negus; Ten Evening News at 6pm on weekends and Sports Tonight on Ten's digital channel, One.
Ten usually is more patient with shows over the last few years, allowing them to build an audience and sticking with them to give them time. The 7pm Project is a prime example. It had terrible ratings for ages, but the network committed to the show and allowed it time to grow, in traditionally one of the toughest timeslots of all and it has paid off.
Losing George Negus would be a blow to a station that focusses on the 16-39 demographic much more heavily than any other station, but still needs that "older edge" at times to keep a more credible edge on current affairs. They are fortunate in having the ratings powerhouse of Masterchef to keep things going for advertisers, but realistically, wouldn't want to lose too many potential "core credibility" programs to focus too heavily on reality TV.

Common-sense (finally) prevails!
People just don't watch Ten for "serious current affairs".
Negus readily admits himself that he's more a personality than serious journo...

I watch Negus followed by 7pm project. Would be disappointed to see it go.

Long-running music show Video Hits became the latest title to be added to TEN’s potential casualty list yesterday.
Very disappointing. Video Hits is the second longest running music show in the world after Eurovision (that title now passes to ABC-TV's "Rage", which is in its 25th year of production). Very sad to see that home produced shows are going at the expense of cheap overseas imports.

Doesn't sound too good for the NBL either, CK:
Ten is also expected to walk away from many of the broadcast rights used to build One's original schedule such as basketball and netball once they expire.
At least the NBL have another four years to go on their five year contract with Ten but who knows if it could be bought out earlier.

Interesting that they'd consider axing Video Hits. I wouldn't think it would cost that much to produce, unless costs are increasing to pay record companies for showing film clips or something like that.

I wondered that too. Has to be the case you would think
