Great Acting Performances

Postby CK » Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:57 pm

After watching the last two nights of "Paper Giants" on ABC, and the superb performance of Asher Keddie as Ita Buttrose (vocally, was incredible. Captured her to the absolute best), it got me thinking of some of the best acting performances over the years.

One of my all time favorites remains Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man". To take on a role like that and nail it to near perfection was a supreme performance and is one I never get sick of watching.

What are some over the years that have captured your imagination?

Saw a bit of that last night, and remarked to 'er indoors how bad the actor doing Kerry Packer was. Thought the accent in particular was overdone.

But yeth, the actreth doing Ita got it thpot on, didn't sthe?

Sean Penn - I am Sam
Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall in "As Good As It Gets" (Greg Kinnear as "Simon the Fag" excellent in that too)
Jack Nicolson in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Hilary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby"
Clint Eastwood in "Gran Torino"

Don't rate him in anywhere near the same class of actor, but Stallone was good in Rocky.

Daniel Day Lewis in "Gangs Of New York"

Di Caprio as mentioned in Gilbert Grape (but nearly anything else also - Blood Diamond, The Departed and the Aviator all great too)

Al Pacino in "Scent Of A Woman"

Jeff Bridges as "The Dude" and "Wild Bill"

Val Kilmer as Gay Perry and Doc Holiday.

Viggo Mortensen in "Eastern Promises"

Michelle Pfeiffer "The Fabulous Baker Boys" (insert drool emoticon)

Julia Roberts "Erin Brokovich"

Anthony Hopkins in "Silence Of The Lambs"

Loved Brad Pitt's efforts in 12 Monkeys, Snatch, Inglorious and Fight Club

Kevin Spacey in Se7en

Adrien Brody in the Pianist

Jarvier Bardem in No Country For Old Men

Woody Harrelson in The People Vs Larry Flynt

OK that'll do for now lol
