Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight

Anybody else catch this little gem tonight?

Arj Barker Melissa George and Australian of the year Simon McKeon were the guests,
but I found Adams interaction with the audience to be the best part. From digging up a backyard to try and find money hidden there 20 years ago to the "frowning at famous tourist spots" website I really enjoyed this show!

Didn't see it, but I've always thought of Hills as a bit of a Rove... He's a 'safe', 'friendly' comedian...

What was his show like? I saw a tiny bit and Arj Barker was on that too - he seemed very nervous and stammered his way through his act.

BEL was gruesome, torture porn at its worst, the most horrific car crash of all time.

Pulled an abysmal 455K audience. Instant death. Can't recall a first ep having such bad numbers.

Barker was odd. As if he went blank and forgot his material. Or he was just stoned.

AHinGSt was okay, I guess. Certainly won't break any new ground. Or attract new fans.

A bit awkward and forced - to be expected for a first show - but it felt awfully padded out...

Someone really needs to explain the Arj Barker phenomeon to me. I've seen this guy a few times live and his material is lack lustre and insipid. He's like a little puppy dog begging the audience for attention (laughs). He's "groovy" and "cute" (apparently  ) but to me that's no substitute for actual material.

He a really top bloke if you ever get to meet him, but to call him safe is a massive understatement. Seen him many, many times live (starting back in the early 90s) and he's never done a joke that's made me go "**** yeah! That's brilliant." As I said though top bloke.

:ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Finally, I'm not alone in this one...

When all else fails, he reverts to a traditional American style of comedy. Shout louder and it apparently becomes funnier.

I heard somewhere Arj Barker is supposedly really arrogant and disliked on the comedy circuit.

Couldn't agree more...

Saw him at the Fringe a couple of years back and he was about as funny as an episode of Full House...

Highluy over-rated.

I have heard the same through the comedy circles.

I personally cant stand the guy.....sort of like Don Lane....never made it in the USA so lets try Australia to suck them in with the old Yank humour

Arj to me just aint funny at all. :?

I have watched both episodes of Adam Hills show and I am a fan of his but this is missing the mark. It needs to workout if its a comedy show, chat show or just a light entertainment show. Not enough time talking to the guests and too much asking the crowd to applause. I do like the crowd involvement but what was the deal with the taxidermi competition??

Ive watched both episodes as well and think its quite good but I have always enjoyed Adam's stuff, right back to when he was on SAFM all those years ago. Will be interesting to see if it can go the journey, may just turn out to be one of those cult ABC shows that all the commercial stations try to pinch and then kill it!
