Movies you just don't "get"

This may be either huge "cult" movies that you have watched and just don't see what they hype is, or don't understand the movie itself, or movies that have a huge reputation, but you can't get into.

I really like Will Ferrell's work as a rule, but just could not "get" Anchorman when I watched. Just seemed TOO silly and too surreal for me, but many people I know absolutely love it and quote it all the time.

Have tried the "Twilight" movies, but they leave me beyond cold - same with the Lord Of The Rings series. I'm really not at all into "heavy" fantasy like this and cannot get into them, no matter what I try.

I'm another who had no idea about THE MATRIX.

Also, TEQUILA SUNRISE. Sat through that and had no idea what it was about.

Back in the day I hired a video of The Naked Lunch and watched it when I was stoned. Could not make head nor tail of it. So I watched it again the next day, straight as a ruler. Still could not make head nor tail of it. WTF was that all about anyway?

The English Patient. 3 hours of complete, utter, mind-numbing BOREDOM. And this dreck got nominated for some flippin' Oscars?!?

In my younger years I attempted to watch Some Kind Of Wonderful on at least 3 occasions. Never got further than 20 minutes into it before giving up.

Conversely to some opinions aired above, The Matrix was a superb movie with great action sequences and much philosophical depth. The sequel however was barely watchable - and the final movie was a complete waste of time and money.

I remember watching "Being There" with Peter Sellers in it, and thinking it made no sense. Might have just been because I was just a kid at the time.

Good movie, but I doubt anyone truly understands the story on initial viewing.
Have to admit I had to do some digging on IMDB to gain a better insight into what was really going on.
Recommend a repeat viewing -if only for a couple of scenes ;)

You are not alone in your bewilderment.

A recent moofie I just didn't get was 'Burn After Reading', a product of the Coen brothers. Only saw it once, at the cinema, and need to see it again to hopefully make sense of it.

Some fillums I reakon are grossly overrated...

Citizen Kane (1941)
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Dark Knight (2008)

Pretty much any Oscar winning Best Picture.

As an aside, read The Catcher in the Rye at the weekend.

Completely underwhelmed...
