Survivor: Season 22- Redemption Island *NO SPOILERS*

Postby MadMax » Fri Dec 24, 2010 3:42 pm

NEW YORK (CBS) At the end of last night's live "Survivor: Nicaragua" finale, host Jeff Probst shared the first promo of the upcoming 22nd season and revealed a new twist to the game.

"Survivor: Redemption Island" will have eliminated contestants living together and competing for a chance to return to the game and winning the $1 million grand prize.
Probst explained the new twist to Entertainment Weekly: "When you're voted out at Tribal Council, you don't go home. ... You go to Redemption Island and you live alone. And at a certain point in the game another person will join you. You will compete in a duel. The winner stays. The loser goes home. So you're continuing to live out there on your own with very basic supplies. But you're still in the game. And at a certain point you'll be allowed to reenter the game and have a shot at the money."

Season 7, "The Pearl Islands," featured a similar format with six booted contestants returning as the "Outcast Tribe," but according to Probst, it didn't work because "we didn't tell people up front it was going to happen." He insists "Redemption Island" won't be flawed since "everybody knows up front."
"A rule can't be unfair if you know going in," he said to EW. "It's an equal opportunity."

Another change to the format is that each episode will only have one reward/immunity challenge for the players that have not been eliminated.
"Survivor: Redemption Island," which was filmed in San Juan del Sur Beach, Nicaragua, this past August, will premiere on CBS on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

With that... a slight deflection to the next topic!

Saw that too. Hmmm, sounds interesting, looking forward to what the 'duel' entails. Hopefully no more bleedin' bags of puzzle pieces!!! Arrgghh! A shame it's in Nicaragua again - one of the most ordinary sites for a Survivor ever, and I don't even recall any of the cultural stuff that they used to do in different parts of the world. The budget cuts keep on coming.

Enjoyed the reunion though :)

Can't wait. I haven't seen the reunion show of Nicaragua yet, but next season looks to be changing it up a bit.
After the high of Heroes vs villains this series didnt live up to my expectations.
Looking forward to a new mindset with new twists etc.
Zipzap you are right about the budget cuts... not many locations in this production.

The tribe has spoken.

Channel Nine viewers want Survivor back on air.

Now that Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth is no more, Nine is set to announce the return of the long-running reality series.

A shame that link gives away a major spoiler though I guess anyone into Survivor has probably heard it anyway

I haven't clicked the link yet, and I'm now afraid to. Will it ruin the series if I do?

Nah, 'the twist' (not counting the whole 'Redemption Island' malarkey) comes in the first 5 minutes. But if you don't know it, I would hold off. It's pretty big if you're a Survivor Fan. Big and a little bit stupid IMO.

I thought or heard it was replacing the Ben Elton show. I assume that hasn't happened? Probably have a few eps of Two and A Half Man to run into the ground until then

You know, I think we should start a thread where those watching ahead can discuss things, spoilers and all. There is a LOT to discuss! 8)

What do you think?

At long last Survivor: Redemption Island is finally here, guys.

It begins with a double episode from 7:30pm next Tuesday on GO!

The 22nd season begins with 18 castaways, including Russell Hantz and “Boston” Rob Mariano, arriving in Nicaragua and learning that ousted players are sent to Redemption Island, where they live in exile and are given a chance to re-enter the game if they can defeat other banished players in head-to-head competitions.

NB: Beware of reading any EPG synopsis as they already contain Spoilers.

Update: GO! has now tweaked its EPG synopsis to avoid the Spoiler. Cheers.

Hellcats and Pretty Little Liars are out of schedule.
