If Packer does this I will not watch 10 again. One HD rules and is needed for those who cannot afford or be bothered paying for Foxtel.

Spoilt Prick, quashing a good free to air channel for the masses because it competes directly against his other network channel.
Foxtel must be losing plenty of customers with freeview, I've gone to get rid of fox twice within the last year and they keep throwing free stuff at me. First time was free sport for the basic package price for 6mths, now I get every channel except movies for the basic package + sport price for another 6mths. I'm a sucker, next time I'm out for good

correct me if i am wrong, but he has only bought a 19% share i thought. How will he be able to tell the remaining 81% of ownership to get rid of a channel. What i think will happen is that 10 (onehd) and fox might end up cobidding for the big sports packages like afl, nrl and cricket meaning onehd might take on even greater prospects in sports coverage.

only has to increase his share of the network by a couple % then he can push for seats on the board. Once he gets some preferred board members in the he can do what he wants
Personally I can't see how he is allowed to even buy the shares seeing as he already owns a rival television channel (Fox Sports) and is even a past owner of a rival (nine). Hopefully his ownership is thrown out by the ACCC

Packer is now Ten's biggest shareholder.
Expected to have a controlling interest by leading a consortium that includes Bruce Gordon and Perpetual Investments.
United front gives him about 41%.
Look out Nick Falloon.

FTA digital channels can't show protected sports under current anti-siphoning legislation.
(Unless its a simulcast broadcast on mainstream commercial like Ten/One do sometimes with the footy.)
However, Conroy signalled changes to legislation on
Insiders yesterday morning.
Would allow live broadcasts of AFL into NSW and Queensland and league to the southern states on One.
Finally...

I saw offsiders at 10:30 and they had media buyer Howard Mitchell on talking about what might happen, particularly in reference to Packer, OneHD and the probable changes to the anti-siphoning list. Mitchell seemed to think that with the new changes coming in regards to broadcasting sport, Packer would be out of his mind to close down oneHD. This is obviously only one mans opinion but he would have a fair idea of what happens in this area.

Doesnt the arrangement change anyway once the analogue signal is discontinued anyway? once it is, and everyone must have a set top box or digital tele to watch any tv, cant they put whatever they want on whichever channel they want? i may have that understanding wrong though, happy to be corrected.

Pretty sure this is what Conroy is trying to nut out in federal parliament now. Commonsense says that this should happen, but just because it should happen doesn't necessarily mean it will

When that day arrives we will finally have LIVE Friday Night Footy.
For those watching the F1 yesterday arvo the British commentators announced that their viewers would have to change channels to catch the end of the race! This was due to going over time in the schedule and obviously something less important was bumped to keep the viewing public happy

Dear oh Dear... profits dropped to 49 million for the 6 months!!!!
Time for something drastic to happen - and it has!
**************************
THE financially struggling Ten Network will relaunch digital sports channel One with general content in May.
Ten Network's acting chief executive, Lachlan Murdoch, said the interim result of a 16 per cent drop in first-half profit was not acceptable.
Net profit fell to $49.52 million for the six months to February 28 from $58.7 million a year earlier, Sydney-based Ten said in a statement today.
Revenue increased 2.4 per cent to $485.76 million. Stock in Ten was up half a cent at $1.34 in early afternoon trade.
"The half-year results are not acceptable and immediate action is already underway to address them,’’ Mr Murdoch said in the statement to the stock market.
"Disappointingly for Ten’s 1300 employees and 22,500 shareholders, these results do not demonstrate Ten’s underlying strengths and potential.
"Ten is at a crucial juncture in its history. Free-to-air television is an excellent business with strong growth prospects. However, Ten has been under-delivering and this must change.
"Importantly, this change has already begun.’’
Mr Murdoch said Ten was addressing the underperformance by scrutinising costs and relaunching sports channel One with more general content.
"One will now broaden its focus on engaging and entertaining males 25-54 and the schedule will centre on targeted drama, HD movies and documentaries, and premium sport.
"Ten has a 2.5+ per cent share aspiration for the relaunched ONE. The company is confident this will result in additional revenue and an earnings improvement.’’
Ten said it would probably only pay a final dividend.
Ten said the recent inclusion of general entertainment into One’s prime-time line up had been successful in boosting ratings, and this had given impetus to a relaunch of the digital channel.
"The bold, broad appeal of Ten along with the already proven performance of the distinctly youthful Eleven and now with the broader content offering for the male-skewed One positions us to capitalise on viewer and advertiser engagement,’’ Ten chief programming officer David Mott said.
Ten said its television earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation came in at $95 million, $3 million more than the update given to the market on February 23.
The company said costs had been lower than expected in the first half.
Television revenue was only up 2.2 per cent from a year earlier, mainly because the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games performed below expectations.
The network said it had grown its total audience by 9.9 per cent.
Ten said it was launching The Bolt Report, hosted by Andrew Bolt, on May 8. The program will be on Sundays at 10am. Meet the Press will be moved to 10.30am.
Ten said the 5pm weekend news had been resumed, George Negus’s current affairs program moved to 6.30pm and the 5pm weekday news extended to a 90-minute bulletin.
