Pernell Roberts, best known for his role as Adam Cartwright in Bonanza has passed away
Pernell died of cancer, aged 81 [1928-2010]
Pernell was the last of the TV family in Bonanza to pass away


Roberts started acting in the 50s
He also had stints as a Butcher,Railroad Riveter[whats that ???]and a Forest Ranger
His big break came in 1959 when he landed the role of Adam Cartwright in Bonanza
He continued on until 1965 when he left the show
At the present time on Foxtel 114+ 152 Roberts is not in the show

Why did Roberts leave the show ?
It has been reported he didnt feel comfortable calling Lorne Greene ''Pa'' in the series
In 1965
Greene was about 50
Roberts was about 37

For a few years he drifted
I recall seeing him in Quincy one episode
He older, and balding unlike the dark haired young man in Bonanza


1979 was the reserection of Roberts career when playing the lead role on the TV series Tapper John MD
A show I must confess that I never viewed

1991 he was in FBI The untold stories
Another show I never viewed


But I did religiously watch Bonanza
This series ran from 1959-1973 , with 430 episodes
Effervesant larger than life safooty poster BAYMAN has just about every episode on tape of Bonanza at home

Roberts now joins Greene, Blocker and Landon

ps, my 2c worth surely an actor in a series like that would be getting very well paid, so i think the age difference/calling him pa wouldn't come into it, lets face it i'm sure if we were getting mega bucks on a tv series we'd be just acting out the character & doing the script.....these days if i were in a series getting mega bucks i'd tell a bloke i loved him if that was in the script
