Is Scarface the most overrated movie in history?

Been reading through a few threads about what DVDs people want to watch and what they rate and there appears to be a lot of love for the truly appalling Scarface.

Scarface is by far the worst movie I have seen with Al Pacino in and it is easily eclipsed by countless mob movies released before (Godfather) and since (Goodfellas). The lead character Tony Montana has no redeemed qualities whatsoever and it's not much of a stretch for Michelle Pfeffier to play the Blonde Bimbo.

I love my gangster movies but Scarface remains horribly overrated. Even the catchphrases are weak 'Say hello to my leetle friend'? Go **** your sister Tony.

Boring.

I think it was rated so highly in the early days due to the ultra high level of blood and violence. I don't think there'd been too many movies like it when it was released. Now they're all like that - it was the theory behind Christopher Moltesante's movie Cleave in The Sopranos. I think with those credentials and the early cult following it gained, that has continued to this day.

I love it. But I certainly don't rate Scarface as highly as The Godfather, Goodfellas or Casino.

Would have given that title to "Titanic", although "Pirates of The Caribbean" gives that a good run. The latter was about the worst thing I have ever sat through. At least could see why people liked "Titanic".

I dont think Scarface is the most overrated but I do think its overrated Godfather (1&2) and Goodfellas are certinaly better movies and deserve more credit.

Awful fillum.

Though I'd put Citizen Kane at the top of the grossly overrated list.

Some recent worthy nominees...

Crash (the one directed by Paul Haggis, not David Cronenberg).
The Dark Knight
The Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
The Matrix[
Fight Club
(though it has as many detractors as supporters).

Pulp Fiction & Shawshank Redemption Overrated? Oh please. Both were great movies. I think a great movie is one you can sit & watch over & over again, which certainly applies to both of these filums.
It would not apply, however, to Waterworld, Any Steven Segal film, Eyes Wide Shut, Born on the 4th of July.

Scarface is a fantastic movie. One of my all time favourites. Each to their own.

I can honestly say I've never seen Dances.
I can also honestly say I hated Fight Club.

I loved Dances and Fight Clubs and all those other movies listed lol .. Scarface was alright, I probably preferred Carlito's Way.

If you're looking for a snoozefest, I don't think anything beats The Bridges of Madison County.

C'mon, I had to see it to get anywhere with a certain girl at the time and admittedly I was young, dumb and you know the rest.

Paydirt still wasn't adequate recompense for having to sit through that stinker!!

I liked Scarface but got more enjoyment from the Godfathers. However the last 10 minutes of Scarface is excellent.

How many times have you quoted "Say hello, to my little friend" in a bad Cuban accent whilst standing naked in front of the missus

Dumb, crude and silly fillum that takes cinema back 100 years to when it was pure spectacle.

And the spectacle isn't enough to compensate for the appalling script.

162 minute coma.
