His name might not be known to all but his work most definitely is. Hope there might be a rerun or two.

David Lloyd, the Emmy-winning writer whose credits include Taxi, Cheers and Frasier, has died of prostate cancer at the age of 75, his son has announced.

His prolific four-decade career also included stints on Rhoda, Lou Grant and Johnny Carson's Tonight Show.

RIP and thanks for some great comedy tv.

Yeh that's why I made a point of adding 'sit-com writer' to avoid confusion with others of the same name.

Very talented guy and wrote for some classics shows...most have been among my favourites over the years.

:(

Very sad. Am working through the complete series of Frasier in the off-season, just finished season 6, and have always thought the show to be the closest that America has produced to an English comedy, in terms of style, writing, subtlety and performance (which I mean to be a big compliment as generally English comedy tends to be a lot longer lasting and more "classical").

Reakon the Yanks cop an undeserved bad rep - anyone would think they were a cultural backwater.

Find some of those 'classic' British comedies virtually unwatchable. Then and now.

Over the last ten years, US television has smashed their Brit counterparts in every department.

HBO is the smoking gun.

The defence rests.

;)

Agree CK, imo along with Mash, probably the best American comedy there is, even Eddie is a star.

Eddie was great throughout it, although two dogs played the role over its run. Am about to start the final season now and feel quite sad at the thought of it, to be honest. The writing is still spot on and has lost nothing with the tragic passing of David Angell through Sept. 11.

Interesting to note that nearly all of the cast, apart from Kelsey Grammer, did very little "front of camera" work after the show ended. Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin (Daphne and Roz) now run a production company together, John Mahoney (Martin) has done the odd TV role but largely works stage now, and David Hyde Pierce has just done the odd bit of voiceover work on cartoons. The latter's decision to come out in 2007 did nothing to harm him, however, and has voiced his thoughts publicly about gay marriage rights a number of times since.

Kelsey Grammer has struggled to find the right medium since "Frasier", although "Back To You" was excellent IMHO - disappointing for it to be cancelled after only two seasons. He has stated since that the show's cancellation was a trigger point for his 2008 heart attack.
