Ashes to Ashes - BBC Life on Mars Spinoff

Did anyone see the first episode last night? I thought it was very disappointing. Some how it didn't seem to catch the feeling of the era (1982) The DI Gene didn't seem to have aged at all from 1973! Hopefully this will improve I really enjoyed "Life on Mars" apparently the American copy was crap.

Well the ABC have taken their time to screen it -season 2 has already been shown in the UK.
Anyway, I thought it okay, but not great.

Goods points were a handful of top one-liners and parts of the soundtrack.
No so good was how the main female character would carry on like a raving looney pretty much all the time.
She might settle down after a while, but geez.

Rates an 8.1 on IMDB compared to Life on Mars with a 9.0, so give it a chance.
Apparently a 3rd season will be made as well.

To be pedantic the series is set in 1981.

BTW, The bartender looks like Dr Phil.

Second episode is an improvement, but I find the main character, Alex, annoying with her constant analysis of her situation.

Life on Mars 1973 went for 2 seasons
Main actor John Simm[played Sam Tyler] was worn out after the 2 seasons and the show stopped
LOM1973 is a fantastic show and they play some classical 70s songs in some scenes
Gene Hunt[Phillip Glenister] is about the best copper Ive seen on TV, rough as guts actor
Rating 9.3

Ashes to Ashes is the continuation prob mainly coz Simms had had enough
Not as good as LOM1973, but then again would show would be
Glenister and several other coppers are in the continuation series
And the wildcard in ATA is the gorgeous Keeley Hawes
The music of the 80s is featured on ATA
Rating 8-2

Life on Mars and Ashes To Ashes are interesting names for the show.
Both were hits in the golden years of legendary David Bowie

Did anyone keep watching?
The 3rd and final (excellent) season was screened on the BBC on the weekend (don't know when the ABC will bother).

Very good final episode, far better than the dreck of the Lost finale.
