Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation

Postby Gozu » Wed May 06, 2009 12:54 am

This is the new show on Ten hosted by Shaun Micallef that debuted tonight. I thought it was pretty weak but would be better suited to a half hour format, they seemed to struggle padding it out for an hour. It's weird seeing Micallef hosting a quiz show and a bit unfortunate he didn't continue with Newstopia on SBS. I'd be surprised if this show lasted more than five episodes especially at 7:30pm.

Agreed, it was very ordinary, in the same way the Einstein Factor is very ordinary. At least that show works because uninterrupted by ads on the ABC they get through a lot in half an hour. This other show dragged on and on - turned it off before it finished and I'm usually a big Micallef fan.

Another panel show!

Very flat. No chemistry. Even less laughs.

But expected when you lump the 'hilarious' Shaun Micallef, Amanda Keller and Charlie Pickering together.

Also, Ruby Rose is one of the biggest oxygen thieves around...

Came in on the last 10 minutes of it.
Dreary.
Formulaic.
Micallef was taking five minutes to set his gags up.

Micaleff has been on such popular shows as.....the one with the news stuff on it...um,what was it called? I think it went for about 3 weeks. Then the one where he played some sort of character.....um,what was it called? I think it went for about 3 weeks.

Really, who would pay him to be on anything other than a boat full of asylum seekers en route to Christmas Island.

Be gone fool!

Miccalef is the funniest local on Australian TV at the moment, but he should know better than to ever venture to commercial TV again.

Miccalef funny? Really? I must have missed all his good work. Perhaps you could put a 15 second clip together compiling his greatest work. ;)

Agreed. Ruby Rose is smokin hot.

I thought it was okay. Would have been better with Micallef as a contestant I reckon.

WTF? I wasn't a big fan of Full Frontal but there's all that stuff, The Micallef Programme which ran for three seasons on the ABC is some of the funniest televison that has ever been produced, Welcher & Welcher was a bit ordinary, Micallef Tonight on 9 was hilarious for how much he used to take the piss out of 9, his guests & Kerry Packer until Packer ripped it off the air (who could forget Micallef live on air ringing up the Channel 9 complaints dept to complain about the show not being any good) and of course Newstopia on SBS which I think was probably his best work and which ran for three pretty successful seasons on SBS. He did make a mistake leaving SBS for the likes of Ten and this stupid quiz show.

Seriously do yourself a favour and go and get on DVD Micallef In A Box (all three seasons of the Micallef Programme), The Expurgated Micallef Tonight or The Incompleat Micallef (his stuff on Full Frontal).

Have to agree with that. Some of the stuff on the Micallef Programme (and other spellings which changed each year) is gold IMHO. While Milo Kerrigan got silly the longer it went, it also was a laugh on Full Frontal. Find him one of the quicker wits on TV today (along with Paul McDermott, which will probably trigger another debate on its own.)

He was also the only bit of the Logies worth recommending, calling it the Lodgies and mispronouncing the nominees. Should have been hosting that and not some dreary panel show.

Just thought I'd point out that Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation was the highest rated show on TV on Tuesday with a staggering 1.648m viewers!

I wonder if it will be next week - not if this thread is any indication

Episode 2 was the second highest rated show on Tuesday with 1.599m viewers. I dare say right about now Micallef is demanding a blank cheque for season 2!
