We've produced some pretty bloody good movies over the years, and just wondered which were some favourite's amongst the users ... My fave from the last coupla years would have to be "Gettin' Square", for any David Wenham fans who haven't seen it make sure you do, the courtroom scene is a pearler!!

Really s@#$ me when people roll their eyes when talking about Australian films. We still haven't got over the cultural cringe and probably never will.

years ago i saw The Postcard Bandit, and thought it was really good, cant even remember any of it now, but i will try and pick up a copy in the next few weeks to refresh my memory.

Anything by Peter Weir is great. Walkabout is another classic to add to Magpiepower's list.

Is'nt The Plumber the one with Jack Thomson knocking off Wendy Hughes & Jackie Weaver ?

You left Stone off your list, & the first Barry McKenzie flick, come to think of it, what about the Alvin Purple movies, & the Smiley series. Chopper, Romper Stomper, Phar Lap, & Their a Weird Mob?. Dons Party, The Cars that ate Paris. A salute to the Great McCarthy, No 96 & The Box even released full length movies that went well in the box office.

What about Wake in Fright with Donald Pleasance.

"Jedda" made during the 1950s, was remarkable in that I think it portrayed aboriginal people reasonably sympathetically, even though the reality in Australia at the time was far different. Worth a look if you can find it.

"40,000 horsemen" was once an Anzac day staple.

Breaker Morant (was deployed overseas with the Army and spent an Australia Day in our boozer watching Breaker Morant and the Anzacs mini series, drinking beer and abusing the Poms who were frequenting our boozer that day )

The Dish (great scene when the Yank ambassador visited town and was attending a shindig and the school band was asked to play the American National Anthem, they played the music to Hawaii Five Oh , classic)

You might recognize Kants as Principal Hyde on 'Home and Away.'

Gotta agree with much of the above. Got a special liking for Bad Boy Bubby & Mad Max 2.

A couple not yet mentioned:

"Thank God He Met Lizzie" - off beat artsy film with Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh before either achieved any fame. Most notable for featuring explicit coverage of Frances O'Connor's bare bum. Hubba hubba!

"Aussie Rules" - this was on SBS a week or two ago, I thought it was brilliant. It was however a bit odd seeing a footy team wearing black and white being called "The Bays" and playing at Prospect!
