OK you fellas came up trumps with 'Cash and Co' (eternally grateful to LL for that) but now we are battling over a film. Again I'm sure it was Aussie made. What we remember is:

A brother and older sister are stranded in the bush.
We think one of them gets bitten...snake/scorpion...not sure
The girl might have been English actress Jenny Agutter!!! (spelling :? )
Rescued by an Aborigine lad.
We think he kills himself at the end :(

Help!!!!!...we're going nuts trying to remember the title

Regards
JAS

the movie is Walkabout made in 1971, the brother and sister are left stranded by their father who kills himself
an teenage aboriginal boy finds them and yes the aboriginal boy hangs himself after the girl seemingly rejects him after a courtship dance

hope this helps

Mmmmm....Jenny Agutter. I definitely admired her for reasons other than her acting ability in Walkabout.

Thanks GDB...you're a star.

Should have remembered such an obvious title but these days I sometimes think I'm lucky I can remember my own name   Hadn't realised it was made 37 years ago though.

Is that why he killed himself? I had always wondered and thought it was because once he got them to safety, he killed himself because he was not supposed to have any contact with anyone at all while on Walkabout, but that he acted to save them, and then couldn't return to his tribe.

Must admit I had assumed that it was because of her rejection but then I have to confess to complete ignorance of Aborigine culture or should I be calling it the culture of indigenous people. Seriously, which is the correct non-offensive term ???

That film was released in New Zealand and my mum being Australian, took the kids to see it. I remember really enjoying it and can't believe it's that old. However, I had the impression that the aboriginal boy scared Jenny in some way and she gave him a certain look which put the mockers on him. I don't think she rejected him, he gave her a fright or something.

Equally impressive in An American Werewolf in London.

Never had a nurse like her in the Lyell Mac...
