Name that show...please

I have a little challenge for you guys. Last night a mate and I were discussing tv shows from our childhood (yes kids we had tv's back then  ). There was one that I remember but she doesn't only I can't remember the name of it (don't you just hate it when that happens). Reason I'm asking you lot is I'm sure it was Aussie :D What I remember (not necessarily accurately) about it is:

Set in Aus around the 19th century (from memory of the costumes)

Based around the exploits of two guys...one tall and one short and stocky who wore a bowler hat and smoked cigars. A bit like Alias Smith and Jones I think only they weren't so young and goodlooking.

Other main character was a woman who I think ran a ranch....maybe

Any ideas????
Regards
JAS

P.S. forgot to mention it would have been on tv arond the late 1960's to early 1970's

I think it had Gus Mercurio starring in it - didnt watch it however - bit on the boring side.

The Box was THE AUSSIE SHOW of the 70s.

Thanks LL you're a star...would have gone mad trying to remember that.

As for 'The Box' I'm afraid you guys have lost me now :? I'll stand corrected but I'm not sure it was shown over here...all I remember is Cash & Co and Skippy

Thanks again

The quality of the flesh seen on The Box was of a far higher quality than what was displayed on Number 96. The Box introduced Cheryl Rixon to tv - surely one day a dvd box set of The Box will be released!

I can remember that. A soap based in an apartment block wasn't it. Had a deli on the ground floor. And the girls

Very controversial - sex, nudity and Australia TVs first openly gay character.

Then they blew the joint up at the end of its run.

Only a few eps remain thanks to the pretty common policy of taping over shows to cut costs...

Courtesy of IMDB...

The TV series ran between 1972-1977.

A movie came out in 1974.

And there was a US version which lasted for one season (1980).

does this policy still exist? I can think of at least two current shows that deserve this treatment.

JTC number 96 finished years ago I have never seen an episode and I am in my mid 20's now. The old man says it was way better than any of the current shite currentley on the idiot box.

Do you mean "Rush"? John Waters was the policeman/trooper in that.

The ABC and 10 were the worst offenders.

But don't do it any more.

Though maybe they should - The Librarians and The Wedge are two deserving of their masters being taped over...

Remember it well H31. I must be about your old mans age. I thought it was great, but then again I was only about 14 or 15 so you didn't get many t1ts on a primetime soap in those days
