NINE ANNOUNCES FINAL SEASON OF

MCLEOD’S DAUGHTERS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nine Network today announced that Series 8 of the Australian rural drama McLeod’s Daughters, currently in production, will be its final.

Creator and Executive Producer of McLeod’s Daughters, Posie Graeme-Evans said, “I have always maintained that the series should finish on a high, and while it was still loved by the audience. Based on this belief we have come to the decision, that Series 8 will be the last.”

McLeod’s Daughters has enjoyed incredible success since premiering in 2001, both locally and internationally. A top performer for Nine each season, McLeod’s has been sold to an incredible 200 countries around the world. The series has also received eight Logies Awards, including two for Most Popular Drama Series in 2004/05.

McLeod’s Daughters is shot entirely on location in South Australia, centres on the vast cattle property of Drovers Run and the lives and loves of the women who work it. It has become an iconic Australian drama and featured the best of local talent, both in front of, and behind the cameras.

The eighth and final series starring Simmone Jade Mackinnon, Aaron Jeffery, Abi Tucker, Michala Banas, Matt Passmore, Doris Younane, Gillian Alexy, Luke Jacobz and Dustin Clare, will premiere in early 2008 on the Nine Network.

He gave them some money earlier this year to keep the production in SA.
It'll be interesting to see if there was a caveat on those funds....

I don't think it was necessarily a bad move on Media Mike's part to try and keep a high profile program like that in the state. Unfortunate timing.

However, it'd be interesting to look through Labor's grants to companies to keep them in the state in recent years and see how they're going.

State Government gave out 200k to keep the show going for its next season now its been cut. Further research suggests that Mike Rann is still 140k in front after selling the property and homestead that is central to the series to Channel Nine. But still its a waste of 200k

Disappointing on some grounds, not the worst news on others. Certainly brought plenty of dollars into the state, but at a slight cost, if you talk to some people both in the industry and in the filming area. Still sad to lose one of the only national productions still filmed entirely in SA. Not sure where this leaves our local TV production industry..

Good to hear, one of the most boring Australian productions ever.

Lets hope ch 9 commit to another Australian series to replace it soon.

Im happy, one less bit of crap on TV.

$200k is a pi$$ in the pond for a serial TV drama.

Even though post is done up here in Sydney, the SA film/TV industry would've made motzas out of McLeod's over the years.

Heaps more than $200k each year.

Definitely not money wasted...
