Are The Chaser getting a bit tired???

Six months ago I couldn't get enough of these guys... Now I can't even be bothered tuning in. I've got a strong suspicion that they'll have a limited life span and would half expect them to disappear from our screens by this time next year (maybe sooner if they make the switch to Ch7).

I never saw them in the early days but my brother in law reckons they were sh!tloads funnier than they are now.

Not the first time that something becomes 'mainstream' and then changes for the worse...

Having said that they are still rating huge numbers for an ABC show (great lead in though with Spicks and Specks)...

I think it's more that this concept is getting tired.
Running weekly skit shows is a very tough gig - just ask The Late Show guys. It becomes a grind when you've got limited time and limited budget. Plus they're better known now, which must make the stunts harder to complete.

I would hope they don't run another series of The War, but look at other concepts. I'm sure they've got plenty in mind.

I haven't watched since the new series started - lost their edge once they became more 'famous' and had to increase the shock factor of their stunts.

Apparently Howard lost his cool at the boys while on his morning walk today.

Yes he did. Told them off for paying out dead people.

Side note. How cool is it that people acting like fools can get close enough to the PM to speak to him? It's great to be Australian.

CNNNNNNN or whatever it was called had it moments, but I find "the war on everything" painful. And the fact that 70% (or similiar) of the "stunts" are set up makes it more so.
Also since seeing Chas on the Top Ten albums on the ABC "he's made the list" . Barry Manilow jokes!!! Fantastic! Hey Chas! Austereo's breakfast shows want their jokes back.

Still gives them something to remember before they get a job with daddy's law firm.

Easy on Chas Leaper! I named my dog after him.

Then again, given your opinion of him, you'd probably find it appropriate.

Anyone would think I was a comedy writer/performer who was bitter because he can't get his show on the ABC.

I agree - the show is not as funny as it was last year when it was on in it's Friday night timeslot.

But it is still p*ss-funny and I will tune in every week! It is one of about 6 shows on TV currently that are actually worth watching.

It might have been funnier then because every time I watched it on A Friday night, I was just getting home from the pub!

Limited lifespan .... ?
They've been around for over 5 years. Different names of course but still the same.

My point was, now that everyone is watching them they'll have a limited lifespan...

Could be wrong...Only time will tell...

I think Dogwatcher hit the nail on the head - concept is getting tired...

All shows like this have their good and cringeworthy bits. I think the Chaser do a better job than most in keeping a pretty consistent standard. It dips now and then (the current 'Election Watch' thing they do is lazy and pathetic) but then so did the Late Show, D Gen etc. The speed with which they have to script, perform and broadcast their show must be incredible.

Thing that bugs me now though is that everything is now a 'segment'. It used to be more spontaneous, now it's a lot more formulaic. I do love the open microphone guy though, **** that's funny.

I used to prefer CNNNN - especially the Fungry's ads!

BTW Does anyone remember Australia...You're Standing in It? Pure 100% Gold (or at least my idealistic childhood memories tell me so)!

I had to laugh how they were heavily criticised for their Eulogy Song on ACA last night - even though ACA played virtually the whole song in their story. F'ckn hypocrites.

Enjoy The Chaser but...

It amazes me how they're lauded for their 'satire?'

As they readily admit themselves, they're 'pranksters.'

They're already making moves away from this type of comedy.

Charles Firth has started another magazine.

While Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen had their first play - Dead Caesar - put on by the STC.

Anyone would think I was a comedy writer/performer who was bitter because he can't get his show on the ABC.

Our national broadcaster certainly is a curious beast (at least the commercial stations look at you while they f*** you.)

Take heart in Geoffrey Atherdon's experience - Mother & Son sat on the shelf at Ultimo for seven years.

Until a change in management saw its potential...

The magazine Charles Firth is doing, is with Pinky Beecroft (Matthew Ford), the singer from Machine Gun Fellatio.

Speaking of satire, did anyone know Humphrey B. Falubert from TISM has started a new band? It's called Root.
