today on 5aa matt byrne was talking footy & mentioned who was playing in the grand final & showing how smart he is with football & then spoke of the magarey medal on thursday & when amanda asked 'whats that for ?' he said 'its the best & fairest for the sanfl'

now if you are going to get on radio (or other media outlets) at least know your facts as we all know the magarey medal is for the

'FAIREST & MOST BRILLIANT PLAYER'

GET IT RIGHT MATTHEW

I reckon if you surveyed all of these passionate SAFooty.net posters the majority of them may not get the wording totally correct. Does it really matter? Play on.

The term comes from the times when any best and fairest award was labelled as fairest and most brilliant player.
It was common back in the 40's to describe a best and fairest as such, but as time rolls on so does our terminology.
I think the ignorant one out of this is Amanda

If Matt Byrne is bad how bad is this Amanda person? She had NO idea what it was.

In her defence, she is the host of a talkback radio show based on gossip, knitting and other bollocks and has never put herself up as someone who gives a crap about footy.

Matt Byrne constantly punches above his weight with respect to footy, but I think he was trying to do the right thing here and is being unfairly criticised.

Saying 'Best' instead of 'Most brilliant' = Ignorant :?

Tough call ....

Wrong? Technically yes. Bit pedantic to make a big issue about it? yes.

At least they mentioned the SANFL! Just wish their sporting show would do so occasionally!
