When I was about 6yrs old my mum worked in a video store and the cover of one of those gremlin movies had a picture of a gremlin coming out of the toilet. Was shit scared to go to the toilet at night for ages after that!

I'm currently working my way through the Battlestar Galactica series again. Introduced it to the wife and loving watching it second time round.

Loved Ghoulies as a kid.

Not as much as Gremlins but.

Critters was pretty funny, too.

In fact, Leo DeCaprio made his film debut in the trashy B-Grade masterpiece Critters 3...

Reached episode 536 of Prisoner. Episode 534 saw somewhat of a mass exodus of characters from the show. First, Marlene and Matt got married, and Matt (along with Frank) are transferred shortly after the ceremony. Marlene is then released after the ceremony as well. Geoff remains at Wentworth, but for one more day as he is paroled.

The major loss though is Judy Bryant, who's very long run in the show comes to an end as she is paroled to live with Sheila Brady. Sheila inadvertently makes Pixies Song a hit, and Judy promptly launches copyright proceedings against Sheila and her record company. Sheila then explains to Judy what happens, and wants Judy to help her write an album. So Judy drives out of Wentworth in Sheila's Mercedes with Pixie's Song played in the background. Episode 534 sees a big break from tradition, with Pixie's Song replacing On The Inside for the closing credits.

Before Frank's departure though, he attacks Joan. While Joan initially appears to suffer only minor injuries, there's a blot clot on her brain, causing her to have blackouts. The women use this to frame her for an attack on Lou. Joan is dismissed for the attack, but Anita Selby lags before agreeing to be bailed by the church. Ann confronts Myra about it, which ends in Ann no longer recognising Myra as Top Dog.

With the massive loss of inmates in recent episodes, by episode 536, the only main inmates left are Myra, Lexie, Lou and Lurch. Episode 536 becomes a flashback episode, where the women reminisce about Franky, Vera, the Judy/Jock Stewart storyline, Lizzie and Bea. Episode 536 ends with Ann informing Meg that there's been a riot at Barnhurst, with multiple blocks destroyed, the hospilisation of Vera and the death of Bea Smith (which was written in to stop people writing into Channel 10 asking if/when Bea will be back).

Episode 537 will see the arrival on the infamous Barnhurst 5, and the start of some of the lowest points in the show's run.

Up to episode 542 of Prisoner, and as I mentioned before, there's been a mass change of cast.

The Barnhurst 5 have arrived. First, we have Willie Beecham and 'Auntie' May Collins - a cat burglar duo (May stole it, Willie sold it). They the closest of friends yet spend most of the time bickering with each other, particularly when May doesn't respond to Willie's melodramatic moments or trips over Willie's pile of junk. Next we have Nora Flynn - a triple murderer who has self-reformed and trained herself to be a nurses aid who becomes very close to Myra. Then we have Daphne Graham (played by Debra Lawrence - thankfully she's more well known as Pippa in Home and Away than Daphne), a manic depressive (and avid gardner who talks to plants) who gets herself in trouble whenever she has PMT. Last we have Julie 'Chook' Egbert, in for fraud (fiddling cheques to support her family) - an introverted genius who becomes very close to Lexie. Chook is the only one that survives the culling of the Barnhurst 5 when the producers realised they were a ratings disaster.

In amongst all these arrivals, Ruth Ballenger (wife of international drug lord Arnie Ballenger) arrives in Wentworth. With the Federal Police wanting to get as much information out of Ruth as possible, she has quite a privileged stay in Wentworth - basically having a triple cell converted in a private studio apartment!

Meanwhile Ann's daughter, Pippa, is home from overseas, and bumps into an old schoolmate, Jenny Hartley. Jenny lives with her wretched Grandmother, who claims to be dying and housebound, but really just wants to control Jenny's life. The Grandmother's death sees Jenny accused of her murder (a blatant copy of the Lynn Warner storyline - just replace baby with old bat).

In another blatant copy of an old storyline, Ettie is trying to get back into Wentworth. She decides to get in with the Fellowes gang, who, while knowing Ettie is just some stupid old bat who wants to go back to Wentworth, want to get in contact with Ruth. So they help Ettie rob a bank.

In a nutshell, Ruth is the only one keeping the show from completely losing the plot, but that's for a future update.

Fire in Babylon, a movie length doco about the rise of West Indies cricket in the mid 70s under Clive Lloyd
purely from the Windies perspective, I enjoyed it very much, all of the big names feature
Richards, Lloyd, Murray, Holding, Roberts, Greenidge, Haynes
and some great footage and photos from the era

Missed that in the cinema!

Limited run though, a week, maybe two.

Talk about adapting it into a feature...

Reached episode 552 of Prisoner.

The press make an article that Ruth is blabbing to the cops, so Arnie and Fellowes want her out of Wentworth. The first attempt is Joan arranges with Ruth to go over the wall. When that plan fails, a terrorist squad storm Wentworth - holding the women (and Joyce and Joan) hostage. The police (both Victorian and Federal) spend a lot of time squabbling over jurisdiction, so the terrorists start killing one women every hour until they can be let out with Ruth. The first one to go is background character Tammy, with the second one being Myra. While Myra was being executed, Chook gets through the air-conditioning to the Governors office and informs the police there's only 3 terrorists and not the 12 the police suspect. When Chook is caught returning, she was meant to be the next to be killed, but the men are overpowered and Nora kills one of them. The other two escape with Ruth and Joan but only make it to an a nearby airfield where the police are waiting.

* Side note - Myra was killed off as Anne Phelan wanted a pay rise or she was leaving the show. With all the specialist equipment needed for the siege, it would have been cheaper to give Anne the pay rise than for the siege storyline that killed her off!
