While he's preaching to the converted with me, I do have an issue with a few minor points he raises in this book. And while I like taking the rinse out of the believers as much as the next person, I don't know if the language he uses in his condemnation of religion is always the aloof, at arms length style that I think it should be.

I read that last January. A very good read, and one which makes you think. My only criticism is that Dawkins himself gets a bit dogmatic at times, undermining the weight of his arguments.

Of the few Dawkins books I've read, I liked "The Blind Watchmaker" the best. I have "The Selfish Gene" sitting in my to-read pile; will have to get around to that one soon...

Caught up some reading over Christmas...

Hollywood by Charles Bukowski - Bukowski on auto-pilot.

And the Hippos were Boiled in their Tanks by William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac - good reason why this went unpublished for over 60 years.

Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote - gonna watch the movie again to see how much of it is actually adapted from the novel.

Confessions of a Cineplex Heckler by Joe Queenan - acerbic and funny as always.

The Visitor by Lee Child. Magnificent.
Just finished re-reading The case of the talking pie crust by Robert G. Barrett. You must read his books. They are all about Les Norton, a bouncer at an illegal casino in Sydney. Hilarious stuff.

Great read so far...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

And being dogmatic is the exact criticism he accuses others of :-).

Will get to The Selfish Gene sooner or later, and I'm assuming he is a lot better when discussing a more scientific than a philosophical topic. If you want something else along this line try God Is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens. Says a lot of the same sorts of things as Dawkins, but in a much more precise manner.

i've just finished hulk hogan ''my life outside the ring''....very interesting, entertaining & throughout the book it doesn't hid the fact that his ex-wife (in his opinion) (i'd agree as most are) was basically a gold digger for her & her family
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
